Default greddy TT question..

So I was down at the local Cingular building today, and as I was upgrading my phone, the guy working there noticed my 350 and started asking about it. He said how he just signed the papers on a PPW one, and picks it up next week. Then he mentioned that his buddy with a G just got the Greddy TT kit installed, without beefing up the internals. The thing is running 5 psi and putting down 360 whp, so he told me.

I was curious as to how reliable running 5 psi would be without having built the motor. I mean the Greddy kit runs only a few more pounds higher then 5, so it doesn't seem to me to be all that safe. I know this question is subjective, and it all depends on what kind of driving you do, but I just wanted to throw it out there anyway. If running 5 psi with the Greddy is actually pretty safe, one could install the greddy kit at 5 psi, save up for new forged parts and labor, then get the motor rebuilt and crank the boost up. I would like to hear some first hand opinions on this one.

The base greddy maps are 5.6psi. Quite a bit of people go this route, me being one of them. ~5-7psi is pretty safe assuming you buy the necessary parts (fuel pump, bov, fuel system, etc.) and get a good install + tuning.

At 5psi you should be OK. However, you still need an ignition timing harness, and thorough retune, as the stock Greddy mapping has no provisions for timing retard. IMHO, ignition timing retard is needed on any F/I Z.

Yea definately get at least the timing harness, fuel pump upgrade, bov, and if you can afford return fuel system. I am a prime example of what happens when you dont. I blew my motor up on "stock boost". Point is dont be like me !!! It will cost you alot more in the long run.

Take it from a guy who knows the Greddy TT kit better than the back of his hand, lol. No joke.

IMHO, it never hurts to start accumulating forged internals while you play around at 335rwhp. Just in case.

I got my kit in march of 04 and I ran her with 6psi @ 395rwhp for about 6 mos. did a few more supporting mods. ie. fuel system and test pipes. And have been running 440rwhp @ 7.5psi since last sept. I only take her out to run hard and race. It is extremely reliable if you can keep detonation at bay and tune well.

No problems with mine and I had her on stock maps with no ignition timing for about 10 months . . . then again, I drive like Miss Daisy with a few exceptions. Listen to Sharif . . .

There are some with AT, main issue is hitting rev limiter before the tranny will shift, it seems fix is raising the rev limiter slightly but the longevity of an AT is still to be seen with FI.

For 5.6psi that should be fine, but you will want to add "retuning" to that list.
