more details.....what are you confused about specifically?

You will need a TT kit, built bottem end (forged rods and pistons), and a good tune. As far as where to get it down, I would find a shop that has already built more than 1 VQ35. I went with SGP Racing in Houston, TX. It will cost you about $600 to ship the motor back on forth.

With that kind of dough....don't mess around. I would purchase an assembled short or long block and then the extras for fuel system and timing/engine management control. Have a good shop do the swap for you, install the extra's and a clutch while you are at it and have some fun.

If you have $40k to spend, I would also recommend just buying a already pre-built up motor from SGP Racing in TX. (Linked previously: http://store.yahoo.com/sgpracing-store/sgpravqmo.html)

If you have that kind of money just ship the car to SGP and let them do everything. I had my motor shipped back and forth for $600. If I would have known before that I could have shipped the entire car for $650 I would had have them do the entire job (pull, build, reinstall). There nothing like a one stop shop!

there are few good garages down in South CA. Talk to them and they will take care the rest for you.

When spending that kind of money, I would rather go with someone that has experience building the VQ35. SGP has built more than 30 VQ35. There's more to it than just tearing the motor down and installing the forged internals.

+1 on SGP, they're the ones building my motor, and they seem like really great guys.

I don't mean to be a jerk but what is so special about the vq35. Any good machine shop/engine builder will do a good job as long as they care. Even SGP can't get rid of the small passages/cooling issues in our motors. I plan on doing a Koyo radiator and an extra inline water pump to help with these issues.

$650 is open container though, right?

Just look around and see how many problems 350Z owners have gotten from shops that have never built a VQ35DE compared to 350Z owners who get their motor built from someone who has done a VQ35DE before. There's your answer. Heck, i'd even be wary of shops that have done a VQ35DE before (Z1 Motorsports).

Not to mention SGP Racing has not had one VQ35DE blow a motor (turbo install, supercharger install, build-up, etc.). They also happen to have made the current fastest street 350Z.

The question is "What is so special about the VQ35" My answer, "Nothing, nada, zip." I'm looking for something more concrete than SGP has never blown one. Example "4g63 have notorious crank walk" If it gives you piece of mind get your motor built by SGP.

If nothing is special about the VQ35DE, why is it so easy for machine shops to screw up a build-up? SOMETHING must be special about it, that, or half of these machine shops don't know what the hell they are doing. What are you talking about "4G63 have notorious crankwalk"? I have heard this is a misconception and not as many have it as you would think, but how does this pertain to what we are talking about? (going from special about the VQ35DE to SGP never blown one to 4G63 crankwalk is a little odd)

This was an example of something that is an oddity for a 4G63. How many people have blown their built motors?

After spending almost $25K on my motor, turbo kit, engine management, etc. I am not up to experimenting with any shops just because they have built a bunch of civics. That's pretty much what I see (civics/hondas) here in most import performance shops. If you walk into SGP they mostly have G35's and 350z's.

So far, only a few. 350zdcalb had some detonation on some of his pistons I believe. Which is why he switched to extreme duty Arias pistons. I think gurgen has blown his motor. Those are just two examples. But did you not see that I said no blown motors with turbo installations, supercharger installations, build-ups, etc.?
