Default Rather simple question about K&N BOV filters...

OK, I just got in my K&N filter for the Vortech S/C BOV that is supposed to help quiet down the whine and I opened the box to make sure everything was intact. To my surprise I found a small plastic container of red oil to apply on the filter. I was expecting the filter to come pre-oiled like the K&N air filter that I have in the stock airbox and this got me thinking...

Should I apply the oil on this filter? The only reason I can think of is that it might help to quiet down the noise and I wouldnt imagine that it would get dirty on the inside, would it? Is there any reason why I wouldn't want to oil it?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

C'mon Neff. Aren't you an engineer. It's a BOV not an intake filter! Sorry couldn't resist.
