Thats funny a good friend talked to Clark this weekend and Clark told him if the CARB cert wasn't released to them soon they would start selling kits as soon is this month...They have kits ready to go just waiting on the CARB cert.

I hope that's the case. I spoke to Ben on the phone. I let him know I was discouraged and said "Are you serious about another few months? You've been saying this for a year and a half now" and he said give me a call in late September and I'll give you more of an update but don't expect it for another couple of months. I hope you're right Mia. I thought Ben was one of their head techs. I'm not sure though.

Exactly...and if it was up to Clark it would be rolling out as a "tuner" kit right now. Clark likes to pull the trigger and ask questions later. But I do understand Jim wanting to wait until the CARB sticker is in....either way they need to start rolling them soon or its going to be too late.

IMO... Its already to late. Well maybe for me, since Ive opted for something else. With Vortech getting the carb oe# couple weeks ago, many opted for that kit. With price tag of almost $7K for a tuner kit, Id go with Vortech, if carb cert. is a must. Ive talked with Ben several times, as early as March, and its always, will never release kit, until we get carb cert. Still might be worth the wait for that carb.#

Does anybody know if the JWT kit will be locked down for tuning or if most shops will be able to tune it for more power? I hope it will be easy to turn up the boost.

It uses a reflash , which is about as "locked" down as you can get.

Um actually according to Jim Wolf it doesn't. It uses a piggy back of sorts to manage the timing and fuel. This is at least what Jim Wolf told me at the Turbo shoot out...

Mia is right. JWT never said they are doing a reflash and said they have their own engine management. All the magazines that published anything about the kit also said that JWT chose not to do a reflash and are using their own piggy back to manage timing and fuel. I hope this kit comes out soon. I can't wait anymore!!!

I believe JWT is doing a piggyback because in order to get the CARB cert, the factory pollution controls have to remain unmodified. I believe the ECU is considered part of the pollution controls.

Yes you are 100% correct they cannot touch the ECM plus they rather tune 100% then 80% of the ecu like all the chip tuners are doing currently.... hitting the secondary map on them is unknown right now.... plus the 85% Tps it only uses is a killer we still have more room if someone cracked the code

From what Ive heard the JWT piggyback is basically very similar to the Split-Second box used by Vortech and Stillen, which are the only 2 kits with Carb eo#, probably more like Stillens version which is not-tuneable. Expect a much longer wait for this kit, carb cert. or not.

If so , I stand corrected, it started out life as a reflash.

I've spoken with Clark and Jim on this and they never intended to do an ECU reflash since it would never pass CARB that way...maybe during initial concept it was but what all others have said is true. The ECU has to remain essentially untouched.
