guys, referring to JWT as retards is not ok.
They are working hard on getting a very difficult task completed. And there are quite a bit of challenges outside of JWT that need to be considered.
I talked to Jim Wolf a few weeks ago and he shared some of the frustration with me on the cold start challenges in particular.
Chances are they will still be the first company to achieve the goal of a CARB Exempt Twin Turbo kit for the Z and I for once wish them luck.
Of course I'm waiting for APS to get there as well sine I'd love to have my APS kit CARB exempt as well...
Waiting is always horrible but if the end result is as good as we're hoping for than isn't it worth waiting for?

I copied this from their website. This sounds exactly like what they are saying today and it's been over a year. What has changed since then?
JWT 350Z/G35 TWIN TURBO SYSTEM UPDATE Date:10/24/2004
To update you on the JWT 350Z/G35 Twin Turbo system, we have completed development and are in the final emission cert. process. This system uses a pair of JWT 530BB Ball bearing turbos JWT presently offers for the Z32 TT. While the package is targeted at 400HP, the 530BB turbos are designed for 530HP, offering a lot more potential with internal engine mods. Check back here, as we get closer to the release. Thanks for your patience; we are sure it'll be worth the wait!

I guess lots of little surpsrises. What Jim told me was that they having a hell of a time to pass the Cold Engine start test and they are working on a solution for that.
the folks at JWT are geniuses when it comes to engineering and product development.
the "retard" comment was reserved for their business model... california is only one state...
with winter coming up, many folks will take the off-season to do major upgrades (including TT systems), sacrificing the ability to sell this kit across the nation prior to the "busy season" just to tango with government agencies is ludicrous (and to add that no one knows how long the song will go, CARB is notorious for having the CD on "repeat")!
that's just my .02 Euro as a consumer... hopefully Jim Wolf has carefully thought out this decision not to offer a non-CARB version for the rest of us. I guess that's why he's the master mechanic and i'm just some schlubb armchair-quarterbacking

It seems like JWT may have missed the boat. One of the differentiating things about the JWT TT kit (at least for the G35c) is the dual intercoolers allowing a stock bumper. However, they've taken so long many people who were getting TT kits probably got something else already. And now the 2007 G35 is coming soon which is probably not compatible with the current TT kit. Why didn't they release a tuner kit first and get CARB second?
Maybe JWT is making business decisions based on the long haul. Those kits that they have reportedly waiting to ship will all find buyers when it comes time. I am sure those patient enough to wait for them will be satisfied with the results like many JWT customers before us. I am also sure they don't want their systems adding to the FI section with more subject lines like "it's running pig rich", "my motor just blew with FI" or "I am only getting 12mpg now".
It also seems to me that most of you feel that people only mod new cars. While the show scene might seem that way, and there is always a bump in sales when cars are new, over time most cars that get modded, get them after they are out of warranty, either by original owners who are done with payments or by later owners who get the car cheep and have the money to pour into a hobby.

I just happened to run the wife’s car through emissions here yesterday. The Arizona requirements are pretty typical of most states. This is what to expect.
1) They checked every car for a converter using a mirror. Missing converter and you fail.
2) Although they didn't do an under hood check on my car they are authorized to if they choose. A vet in another lane had the hood up and whatever they found he failed. If they should find a SC or turbocharger (which are impossible to hide) and you don't have proof of Carb approval you fail.
3) Proof that the emissions equipment is working.
Some counties still use a tailpipe test but the larger cities now employ an OBDII scan. The OBDII test by the use of both pre and post 02 sensors can detect a missing converter. I have heard of one 350z in Chicago that got passed without a converter by just using a test pipe with the second 02 sensor installed. How that could happen is anyone’s guess but the ability of OBDII to detect a missing converter to spelled out clearly in the technical notes extract quoted below.
If the downstream O2 sensor reading is fluctuating from high to low like the front sensor, it means the converter is not functioning. The Check Engine light will come on if the difference in O2 sensor readings indicates hydrocarbon (HC) readings have increased to a level that is 1.5 times the federal limit. For 1996 and newer vehicles that meet federal Low Emission Vehicles (LEV) requirements, the limit allows only 0.225 grams per mile (gpm) of HC - which is almost nothing. Converter efficiency drops from 99 percent when it is new to around 96 percent after a few thousand miles. After that, any further drop in efficiency may be enough to turn on the Check Engine light. We’re talking about a very sensitive diagnostic monitor.
Having Carb approval obviously doesn't automatically mean the vehicle will pass a tailpipe test or OBDII scan but it does mean that the system involved has undergone extremely rigorous testing to obtain the approval and unless something is wrong it will pass. It should go without saying that if you have altered anything that is detectable you still are subject to failing the test Carb approval or not.
It is no wonder that most all of the kit manufactures with designs potentially capable of passing are now working toward getting Carb approval.
JWT’s decision to not have their name on any kits prior to obtaining Carb approval may have more to do with liability than marketing reasons.
I have driven a few cars outfitted with their kit. I can say it's mean as hell.
As far as why JWT is waiting, I would think it's irrelevant. The more important question is when not why IMO. I'm sure he realizes he losing money (whatever amount, small or large) so it must be pretty damn important whatever the reason.
At any rate I'm sure the kit will be available in the first quarter of 06'.

My opinion, it would seem that Jim knows what he is doing......as I have been alerted that two exist in my neighborhood, I am scheduling to go see it being installed sometime in the next two weeks.
My VQ is being rebuilt, as we speak, and I am having the JWT/s added to my stable of mods

Good idea, smart. I am sure you will love this TT kit as much as we do.
