MIne smoked and so did about 10 other ones. I don't know how it was remedied but the smoking is not an issue like before when free revving. I think all APS kits without cats smoke on Decel, not a flaming tire factory smoke. Just like on a cold startup type of smoke.

That's the way that Garrett GT series twin turbos will perform/operate if the turbo oil drain hoses and the oil volume is correct from day one.

Our engineers tested an APS twin turbo system on a new 350Z that had absolutely no sign of visible smoke after 3000 miles of severe road testing.

The only way that APS engineers could force the car to emit smoke was to refit longer oil drain hoses (hoses that did not offer sufficeint fall from the turbochargers to the oil pan) and to over fill the engine oil by approx 3/4 of a quart, then the car smoked as being described by some on this forum.

Obviously correctly trimmed oil drain hoses and the correct oil volume as specfied by APS is absolutely critical to ensure smoke free engine operation and to ensure that the seals in the Garrett turbochargers are not damaged.

Hope this information helps you guys understand the importance of the turbocharger oil drain topic.

My car smoked from day one. IMO, based on the pics in the notice on the APS webiste, my drains were never incorrect. My oil level was correct from day one as well. Though I drained and refilled my oil to ensure and trimmed the lines untill they physically could not be trimmed any further and still reach.....all to still get smoke on decel

I think APS has been helpful to help me try to remedy the situation, but my car continues to smoke. As most know, the smoking is not an isolated occurance. There are more than a handful of us out here. Some self installed, some shop installed. It seems to me, from what I have read, most of the 'smokers' seemed to get their kits around the same time frame??? Maybe a bad batch of seals (just a thought)

Personally I don't really care what the problem is, I just want it resolved. The things that upset me are:
1.) No notice, at the time I purchased the kit, that smoking had EVER occured with the APS kit - this means APS had no notice about the smoking issue on their site. Regardless, I am confident that at least in my case, the oil level and drains were never the cause of my smoking.

2.) It seems inevitable that in order to remedy this, the turbos must come off - whether it is the turbo seals themselves or the motor that is causing the smoking. As most would guess, this is a small step up from installing a set of headers on the Z - Not very easy
