ATI probably didn't R&D as much as you think. I bet they just took as similar motor specs,then tried 1 or 2 prototypes. In '02-'03 there was a huge market for FI, ATI probably rushed it.
sorry if i came off the wrong way, i was a little messed up last night, hahaha. my main point really was just about throttle response, turbos having a little lag and superchargers having none. only turbo car i have driven with no noticeable lag was the sequential tt on the last rx7's.
and actually the 40hp figure was just running the 6-71 on any motor but gearing it for 10psi. ati has a pretty good racing program with some v8's pushing huge power, i'm sure somewhere along the lines they had to test it somehow, i would hope. now i'm curious as to what it truely is to run it to 10 psi, lol. maybe i call, lol.

my logic was everyone seems to be seeling there used SC for like 2800-3k i could pick one up for that where u dont see turbos that cheap
