Well I guess I should chime in on this since I was there when this went down today. I was debating on whether or not I should but i can't help myself.

You might remember me from this morning. I was the guy who gave you back your 10mm Craftsman socket I found in your intake manifold when I was inspecting/admiring the motor this morning before you got there.
As you know I was in the office with you and Ted and Laurie when all this realization happened. I was just observing and thinking, "oh no!!!" But really I don't know what to say too you. Except I am positive Ted was not trying to get over on you. I think it had to be a misunderstanding between the both of you. A miscommunication, something like that. I was sitting there watching the whole thing and looking at you get pissed, and looking at Ted standing there like he did not know what to do. I think both of you're guys minds were spinning at that time. I know you were pissed and for sure that is understandable. I could almost see steam coming from your head. It was a very uncomfortable situation for everyone in the room and it was unneccessary.
But I just wish you could believe that Ted was not trying to rip you off, that just doesn't make any sense that that is the case. I do know Ted personaly, I have known him for years, and that is just not him and I know their are plenty of people, and customers, who can vouch for that. To get bad word of mouth like this is just not something someone like Ted would risk even if he wanted to. And the shop is not slow either. This all has to be a mistake somehow.
But right after you left it wasn't 30 seconds before he darted out the door to catch you. I think he had a chance to think without the pressure of you being there and thought maybe he might have been wrong. As he was going out the door he was saying that he thought he should just offer you the tune for free.
Personaly I am convinced this whole thing was unintentional. I hope you can believe I am sincere even though the fact is everyone here knows I am biased and I would not even try and deny that for an instant.

I don't know what else to say but sorry you were not happy at all.

Mike

I thought you might be a member here and was waiting for your post. It wasnt the best of times,lol. Its pretty hard to get me pissed and I was there. I just couldnt understand how something could go so wrong in such a short time. I just tralked with him four days ago. When I called him back to tell him I was leaving to drop off my motor I went over the price AGAIN just to try to get him to remember me. He said oh yeah bring it on down. Im thinking about that over and over, how could he get that wrong?
When I left I was in no mood. I even said a few choice words I shouldnt have in front of pops thats how hot I was! Ted called about five min later. He said he was sorry and that he might had made the mistake. He is always busy and has a ton of things going on so he could see how things might have got mixed up. I chilled out for a sec at that point. He then said he would like to tune the car for the mistake. That got me hot again because that wasnt the problem. The problem was the overcharge. so that didnt go far with me. Its like taking your car in for a oil change for 19.95 and getting a bill for 49.95 and the shop telling you, oh sorry for the overcharge your tranny needs a flush so we'll include that because we overcharged you. I dont know how else to put it to make people understand.

I hope you work it out, too. I *used to* quote people for web site work on the phone and then forget what kind of rate I quoted, so I know how it can be easy to do that kind of thing after time had passed (especially after weekend of heavy drinking) ...but for my own peace of mind, I put everything in writing now.

At least he's willing to offer something of tangible value (a good tune) to make things right. There are a lot of shops/guys out there who would just tell you to fork yourself.

So after you've had a chance to sleep on it, give some serious thought to working it out -- in the end, you'll come out ahead in dollars if nothing else.

It's cool dude I do understand that. That kind of **** happens to everybody. Well at least you have some nice cams. Those are in a number of APS Z's he's done and all those guys seem to be happy with them so far. I hope you reconsider the tune. I'm not APS'd but he did a N/A set up for me last week and it's running very strong after the tune. I am pretty sure he would not jack you around after this and he never wanted to anyway. Good luck with everything else though man!!

Thanks and thanks for posting. Im glad someone was able to see that I wasnt trying to pull a fast one. Ill pass on his tune, Ive now had a bad taste in my mouth and he did nothing to address the problem. I dont see how offering something other then the problem at hand fixes anything. Its ok I could tell hes a macho guy and trying to get him to admit his fault was going to be hard! Ill stick to shops that are up front with me.

I agree with this position completely.

I don't know what else you want him to do but fair enough. And good luck to you with getting a superior tune.

He could give me the $300 back. If Ted made a mistake then he should eat the loss. The free tune is a nice, but if Steve doesn't it want it then he should give him his money back. I am sure Steve will get someone else that is just as qualified to tune the car.

Well I took my motor in to scotts for cams last week. I pulled the motor out of the car and was doing a APS TT install. While the motor was out I thought hey this is the time to do cams and all the other small things while the motor was out. So I started to call around and get prices for install and cams. Im in nor cal and only know of two shops that are I felt were up to the task, so it was between the two. I first called Rob at Z car garage that Ive delt with in the past. He tunned my Vortech a few months back. His price was 1300.00 installed for JWT cams with the motor out of the car. My next call went to Scotts. This was my first time talking with Ted(owner) He told me about some custom grind cams that they had been using. He said if I wanted them he could do 1500.00 installed with the motor out of the car. I told him that was a little out of my range. He then said he could do 1200.00 OTD installed. I was like cool! This is 100.00 less then Z car and they are some new cams, what the hell. I said cool lets do it! He said bring it down. The next day I took the drive to the bay and dropped off my motor. Ted(owner) said he would have it done in a day or so. I was like cool! He took all my info, addy and stuff but never gave me a invoice. ( I guess I should have asked for one) I was thinking about how I was going to be stuck in traffic and was trippin on the three hour drive. Anyway I went today to pick up my motor and to drop off my buddies car for a APS TT and cams. We loaded the motor up and I went in to pay. GUESS WHAT! He said my bill was 1500.00!!!! I thought maybe he just forgot about what he told me on the phone and that I just had to remind him. So I said ahhh Ted it was 1200.00. He said no it was 1500.00 So we went round and round and he told me it was 300.00 in labor and that he couldnt give it to me at cost. I said labor??? LABOR was included! You said OTD installed. He said that couldnt be because of his labor rate. I said look I would have just taken it to Z car if I knew it was going to be 1500.00 it would have only been 1300.00. These cams havent even been proven. The lady working the phones said yeah but not for THESE cams. I was sooo pissed at this point! He, they didnt want to hear any of what I was saying and we were going no where! I said fine heres my car but in the end I will get it back one way or another! I guess they were fine with that because they charged my card and handed me my paperwork. I was with my Dad so I was trying to tone it down a little BUT man I was pissed! As some of you may know my car. You know I want things done right! I dont ***** if I know what Im getting, no shortcuts! This is really not about the money this is about the fact that I was told one thing and done another. Ted called me on my way home and said he would tune my car for free. He said that was 500.00 worth of tunning The thing I dont understand is. If you going to lose 500.00 in tunning wouldnt it be better to make good on what you said and save yourself 200.00??
Heres the funny part. My buddies car that I dropped off called and got a price before I left. Ted said he could do a installed price of 4500.00 with cams on his car. He already had the kit. He said he had 3k Ted said ok I can do 3250.00 installed and cams. I called my buddy and told him he better get a invoice! He said it was faxed to him. So why I didnt get a invoice I dont know, or do I?

======================

What good is a pizza today when I wanted it yesterday..

======================
Dude the pizza problem was serious I was hungry as hell..
And my point wasnt so much about a car it was about the action.

Think I'll never order from them again even though they now offered me a free pizza?? Nope because they didnt come through when I was hungry. They told me it was on the way thats why I had waited for them yet it never showed (Just as he took his engine to SP he did it for a reason, Yet the reason he took it there didnt happen).

Anyway, You know what even though it was just a pizza I'm sure all my friends are gonna hear about my experience with that pizza company. Not because they offered me a free pizza but because they didnt deliver what they told me.
---------

SP offered him free Dyno tunning.. Hey I think thats cool and all but honestly is that what G352NV wants? Think a free pizza is = to my time waiting in hunger for the pizza to arrive?
Although the gesture was nice they offer something that has no interest or value to the situation..

---------

(Like saying I wanted to drive to Florida and you said drive Highway 1 north. Highway 1 north goes to Canada not Fl then saying well I'll pay for your plane ticket to FL. Dude my intentions were to DRIVE so I could meet freinds and family along the way.What do I get out of flying? Although the intention are nice I wouldnt achieve any of my goals by flying.)

Sorry for the rant I'm just still so pissed at the pizza guy.

dude g352nv.... i know exactly how you feel.... i think its funny how shops like to overcharge and try to stick it to you just cause they know you have money.. i really dont think they would try this if we were rocking civics... its funny really they think we know nothing about cars and labor on certian things.. so they think they can get away with it.. i to this day have not found one honest shop or installer who has not tried to squeeze me for ever single ****ing cent they could! makes me furious just thinking about it... you know whats even harder is when they have your car or are doing something really important so you have to keep your mouth shut because you want a good job done! you have to find the median to being polite and sticking up for yourself when you know your right.. and then to top it all off try being in another country.. there is just something about being in someones face when discussing business that cant be substituted.. kinda like people on the internet who act tuff! but wouldnt do in in person!
