Well I took my motor in to scotts for cams last week. I pulled the motor out of the car and was doing a APS TT install. While the motor was out I thought hey this is the time to do cams and all the other small things while the motor was out. So I started to call around and get prices for install and cams. Im in nor cal and only know of two shops that are I felt were up to the task, so it was between the two. I first called Rob at Z car garage that Ive delt with in the past. He tunned my Vortech a few months back. His price was 1300.00 installed for JWT cams with the motor out of the car. My next call went to Scotts. This was my first time talking with Ted(owner) He told me about some custom grind cams that they had been using. He said if I wanted them he could do 1500.00 installed with the motor out of the car. I told him that was a little out of my range. He then said he could do 1200.00 OTD installed. I was like cool! This is 100.00 less then Z car and they are some new cams, what the hell. I said cool lets do it! He said bring it down. The next day I took the drive to the bay and dropped off my motor. Ted(owner) said he would have it done in a day or so. I was like cool! He took all my info, addy and stuff but never gave me a invoice. ( I guess I should have asked for one) I was thinking about how I was going to be stuck in traffic and was trippin on the three hour drive. Anyway I went today to pick up my motor and to drop off my buddies car for a APS TT and cams. We loaded the motor up and I went in to pay. GUESS WHAT! He said my bill was 1500.00!!!! I thought maybe he just forgot about what he told me on the phone and that I just had to remind him. So I said ahhh Ted it was 1200.00. He said no it was 1500.00 So we went round and round and he told me it was 300.00 in labor and that he couldnt give it to me at cost. I said labor??? LABOR was included! You said OTD installed. He said that couldnt be because of his labor rate. I said look I would have just taken it to Z car if I knew it was going to be 1500.00 it would have only been 1300.00. These cams havent even been proven. The lady working the phones said yeah but not for THESE cams. I was sooo pissed at this point! He, they didnt want to hear any of what I was saying and we were going no where! I said fine heres my car but in the end I will get it back one way or another! I guess they were fine with that because they charged my card and handed me my paperwork. I was with my Dad so I was trying to tone it down a little BUT man I was pissed! As some of you may know my car. You know I want things done right! I dont ***** if I know what Im getting, no shortcuts! This is really not about the money this is about the fact that I was told one thing and done another. Ted called me on my way home and said he would tune my car for free. He said that was 500.00 worth of tunning The thing I dont understand is. If you going to lose 500.00 in tunning wouldnt it be better to make good on what you said and save yourself 200.00??
Heres the funny part. My buddies car that I dropped off called and got a price before I left. Ted said he could do a installed price of 4500.00 with cams on his car. He already had the kit. He said he had 3k Ted said ok I can do 3250.00 installed and cams. I called my buddy and told him he better get a invoice! He said it was faxed to him. So why I didnt get a invoice I dont know, or do I?

 

It looks like they're more than making it right by giving you free tuning up to $500.00.

Let's see: you got charged 300 more, but are getting 500 worth of free services. They're giving you 200 for the messup so I'd be happy with that.

 

That sucks man I guess he wanted to save face for his mistake by offering you the free tuning so you don't bad mouth his shop on the forums. Are you going to take him up on his free tuning offer? I would to save yourself some money and make sure you get a invoice saying "FREE" for the tuning. Good luck and nice ride!!

 

lol, happy with the tunning? Is thats what at hand right now? I dont think you understand he wasnt honest with me up front. To me that goes a long way. Their shop is slow, he wanted the bis and once the cams were in I guess it was too late for me to go back now wasnt it? I dont want him tunning my car, its too late for that.

 

Don't know the guy or the shop, but I would be leary of any free tune. You get what you pay for.

 

Okay, then tell him to shove his free tuning up his *** and get stiffed for 300. I don't know the situation as well as you do so I called it as a read it.

 

how would u even know if they give u 500 dollars of tuning...? i mewan for all you know hes gonna sit on it for an hour and be like wutever and move on. I mean he could also just start charging you here and there small little things that you arent supposed to be charged for to make up for the cost. I unno sounds shady 2 me.

 

lol thanks! Dude its not the 300.00, I guess it is kind of lol. I pretty much wrote off the 300.00 when I posted this. But heres the deal. I just wanted what I was told I was going to get. I wanted the option of tunning, not to HAVE to go to him for it.

 

dude, you paid on your cc so call up your cc company and dispute it. that will put a wrinkle in his day.

 

im assuming you are not F/I by saying that. u know if your car is tuned or not. especially if you have a sideband and they provide a dyno with a/f.

 

I wouldn't go back for free tuning after they see you took it to the boards!

Really, you should have took them up on that offer. Full tuning session at their rates is probably worth four of five hundred.

From what I've seen they are a good shop and they wanted to make it up. However, if they wanted to keep you happy, probably should have just knocked the money off the cam install as you've posted.

Sounds like bad communication. I know when I drop my car off at a performance shop I usually pay first if parts are involved.

 

Seems like you dealt with two diffrent people at the shop and one didnt know what the other said . And after you left , the two talked and ended up calling you trying to make it right with you before you even got home from the shop . But it seems you are just out for revenge for something that they were willing to put right . Dont think to many guys on this and the other boards you posted this rant on are feeling sorry for you . They tried to make it right and you threw it back in thier face

 

Dayum bro...sorry to hear that. I'd be pretty pissed too if ANY shop changed the agreed price on me especially after going through loading up your engine & driving through traffic. It's just a big hassle. Well, keep us posted man & I hope everything works out for you.

 

Wow, you guys are killing me! How did I throw it back in their face? Yes Im trying to get the word out. Why wouldnt I? I was told something and got something else. Yes Im pissed! I think anyone would be. I didnt want his tunning and I still dont! I have spent close to 10k with this thing. Is 300.00 a lot at this point it is. That could be going to other things. And I delt with the same PERSON, Ted the owner. He did say that he would do the tune. But I dont see what one has to do with another. The matter at hand is cams.

Bro I refered you to Ted and I am sorry about your experience....but Ted is one of the best tuners around.... and he will make up for the misunderstanding...trust me you need to get your car tuned and why take it somewhere else and pay $400-$600...he's trying to make up for the misunderstanding.....trust me I had 470whp after Ted tuned it... other people with the same parts but different tune are making 430-450whp...I'd be mad 2 but just take it for the free tune and get more hp out of you ride....

Bottom line, a person should be a man of there word. Dont **** down my back and tell me its raining.

 

He offered 500 in free tuning becuase the tuning is not worth 500, unless he is tuning the car from scratch, I agree if his tuning is worth 500 why give that up rather than the 300 on the cams, just a ploy to get you back in charge you for something else.

 

Personally, I like business done the old fashion way. When someone gives you their word or how they handle their business. I take that to heart. I don't like slimy, oh today's special is 1500 tomorrow its 1200 type of prices. I like people to be upfront. Hey it takes X amount of time. I need approx. X amount this is what your bill might look like. Honesty and how you handle your business and how you treat others is the most important aspect to me. Im surprised to have heard about this. I wouldn't get their tuning either, not after your experience.
