I plan on getting a ST or TT soon and want to get a built motor thru SGP for peace of mind. Will a built short or long block do or do I have to just replace the pistons and rods to handle 600+rwp? Which should I do short, long or just P&R with a 4k budget for the motor? Thanks
Well considering even a used longblock at a killer price is going to run you $1500-$1700 you are already out of your budget. Forged pistons and rods are going to be about $2000 for both. Now factor in labor and shpping and you are WAY over budget. You could purchase a used short block for $1200-1500 and send it to SGP for the Short block package which I think is $3500. Still total cost will be near $5000 for this...

Read my sig....it'll get you 600whp safely, if you add good engine mngm't. And better axles. Oh and you'll need as free flowing exhaust as possible; I'm getting a custom 3" true dual w/ test pipes made.

Thanks for the info Mia. I was thinking about the short block from SGP for $2700 or the one for $3700. I found a place that would do the install for $1500. How good are eagle rods I always hear of people using Pauter rods. Eagle rods is what this package uses. I'm not looking to go over 600+ yet, just between 500-550, but when I decide to do so I want to make sure that my engine can handle it without pulling it again.

now with my new 3" exhaust, when it gets done, i will retune and dyno...i am running a higher octane fuel (96)...i expect to hit 630-640rwhp sae corrected...approx 560-570 actual....
so, one can probably get very close to 600 with stock cams and heads...much further over that figure, then one would need some new parts

I don't think Sharif is running cams (I could be wrong) and he is over 600+.

Does any one know if any other company besides APS is coming out with a turbo exhaust for our cars in the near future? Thanks
the main thing holding me back was my injectors were close to being maxed out (550's)... i could raise my fule pressure and probably hit 650rwhp...would be much more effecient with headwork/cams and much lee stress to make the same numbers at a lower boost level
Good parts and good tuning will get you there. Stock cam is doable, although a cam upgrade is a good idea to keep your power increasing to redline...or as close to it as possible.
Pistons, rods, studs, are the basics.

Greddy is coming with an EvoTT with 2.75 true dual piping for the 350Z. Kenji has it on his car now...should be a month or so before it arrives in the states. Probably a very good setup for most people.
