I haved a greddy type s. pm me your email address.

*edit* the type s is on a greddy tt kit not a vortech, but you can get an idea of what it sounds like.

Matt,
Don't change it!!! Coming from a BOV and Diverter valve manufacturing background, the vortech is MUCH better than the ones mentioned. Now if you had said Tial, TurboSmart, or Forge, my answer might have changed.

Vortech's bypass is better than an HKS? I find that hard to believe...

Does the Type S whistle when you're off the gas? like driving around normally does it vent?

i REALLY enjoy my HKS SSQV... they have these fin options to change the noise.. but i havent had time to install the quieter one... (purple)...

Hey, Matt! I can't wait to see your car when it's done! I'm thinking about getting the Vortech now so I can try to keep up with Phil's STi.

My HKS would just do this lame squeak thiggie, not very impressive, but I put on a Seibon VT hood a week ago, and, it seems, the real sound was trapped in the engine compartment. It does this loud Wooooooooosh with squeal that is hard to describe, but everyone who has heard it commented how bad *** it sounds. The good sound was trapped, it is now free.

I think the Vortech is a MUCH better quality production piece. It doesn't contain plastic parts like the HKS. I don't like the fact that either of the valves adjustment limits travel of the piston. Piston travel is a major aspect of the valve design. I have seen numerous customers with GReddy valves at the point they would simply "crack" open because the adjustment screw was so tight to "hold" boost on the top side. The HKS adjustment is the same. At Forge we actually had interchangeable springs with varying spring heights to adjust for spring travel on each valve. To be different, HKS simply uses the side port of the valve to have pressurized air act at a 90 degree angle to the piston. You can do that with any piston style valve. Take a look at ATP and how they make different ports for each position of the valve. http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=BOV
I think the best valve out for design is the APS, for 300-400hp, but they don't promote it or get the credit that it deserves. The thing most people don't account for is port size and volume. While I worked at Forge Motorsport I always looked at using about 1mm od per 10 hp as my own reference chart. Hence, a VW or Audi would work on a 25mm valve up to about 250whp, or a EVO or WRX on a 34mm up to about 340whp or so. My TT camaro had twin Forge 25mm valves at 550whp. The TT Porsche's run twin 25mm valves around the 450hp-550hp levels. Even the Audi S4's ran twin 25mm valves at 300-500hp. I think TIAL has the aftermarkets best valve with the 50mm port size for cars upwards of 400-550 hp as their valve is a very simple and effective diaphragm style, rather than piston. I have talked with Dave at APS about the effects of running dual valves since nobody in the market makes appropriate valves for high hp cars and they had actually done some work with twin 32mm valves on one of their test cars with excellent results. It's not just about getting the air out BUT how quickly it can be done.
To be clear, if I ONLY had the choice between the Vortech or HKS, I would have to choose the Vortech since I have actually pulled both of them apart . If it was a wider choice, the only companies I would look at are Tial, APS, TurboSmart, and ForgeMotorsport depending on the application it was needed for.

I was going to go with a Tial BOV, but I was told that it would not work well on my application (two small turbos). I was told the Tial BOV are better for big turbo's like on STI and Supras so I went with the Greddy type S.

Low boost is also a factor to consider in your choice, or so I was told.

Gman,
It looks like you are around 60 lbs/min. of airflow being used. Its not about the turbo size as much as the volume of air that needs to be moved as to not affect the compressor wheels. If a EVO and STI run a 34mm valve at 300 flywheel hp, or 30 lbs/min airflow, and you are running at 600 flywheel hp on twin turbo, essentially you should be running twin 34mm valves, or two of the Type S (37mm) that you have.

Tom, what's your take on the Greddy Type RS? That's what I'm running.
