Default Well...Finally Blown!!!

Installed HKS supercharger system...I'm finally BLOWN! My cousin and I installed the system in aprox 25hours (total work time over 3 days). NOT completely done, still need to modify the engine cover and make a few adjustments to a few things....
Initial impression ... OMFG!!!! Even though there is no real break in period, I am taking my time, to get used to the extra power, and to make sure there aren't any leaks or anything of that sort.
The power is definitely there took it for a short drive, probably about 10 miles round trip...feels like a whole different monster!
Sounds like a jet plane...the whine is subtle till the higher RPM's and blow off is heard between shifts, on the PASSENGER side...
It took so long, because we took our time making sure to do every step, word for word...which we came to find later, has some room for improvement. We are going to go thru the install manual and make the nec changes, if anyone is interested.
All the tools needed are in a "WELL EQUIPPED" home garage...very minimum "on your back" work...
QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY!!! Both of us were very impressed with the parts..a lot of the parts look OEM, and most fit perfect...
The hardest part of the whole install was the oil cooler, and tank assembly...only because it's so cluttered in that area...
BTW, installed a Motordyne 5/16 spacer with the aramid gasket..simple simon install,,,this part took probably 30 mins.
Sorry, I don't have any pix yet...cousin took them all, and flew home last nite.. I'll snap some shots over the next few days, and update any findings...and i'll try to get a sound clip...if I can catch it going by!!
PROPS to :
James ..my twin cousin..flew in just to help! Couldn't 've done it without cha! Sorry can't help with the install of your SC in the NSX...
NinjaZ: thanks for the video clip and your responses to my PM's
Hydrazine (my350z.com) : thanks for getting my 5/16 spacer in on time for my install, and for all the added suggestions and support!

do/are you going to do the ECU yourself? did you have any "mechanic" experience prior this installation? i was just wondering cuz i dont have much experience but i'm going to do installation (soon Greddy TT) myself, cuz that's what i'll be doing a couple of year from now (3 yrs, warranty expires). i can install intake/exhaust/other minor upgrades but not such.

Experience: I've been working on cars for about 20 years...no formal educations. I've done a lot of different things: designed turbo kit for the 240SX, pulling motors in and out. I don't know the difficulty level of the Greddy kit, but this one was pretty easy, since ther was no real "changing" of parts...mostly re-locating and routing of hose, pipe, etc..The HKS system comes with a "Plug and Play" wiring harness..no ECU re-tune "needed"

Wow you scare me, thought we have lost another Z to F/I. Saying blown is like saying bomb at the airport. LOL! But I'm glad you mean Blown a.k.a supercharge. Congrad, must be fun to drive. Wish I didn't sell my Z to my little bro, he's going into F/I too but I might get to drive it from time to time. I might have to buy it back when it done or just move on to something else. Anyway good luck with the kit!

I almost bought the HKS kit. Heard a lot of good about it. Hope it runs great for you. I also heard that HKS says no mods but a catback. Be careful.

gringott: It is one of the easiest mods I have ever done...
The only other mod to performance, is the KJR pulley, and it "seems" to be working fine.. thanks for the heads up...def gonna be careful...
I'm thinkin' maybe a clutch assembly...?? hmmm

BTW, does anyone know if there is a reset for the airbag light?? Mine came on when we reconnected the battery, and flashes...the connectors under the seat are connected...any ideas?? If not, no biggie, just take it to the dealer...oooooh! I hate even typing that! lol

Zboy- On the instruction manual it says:
"This product is desigend for use with the factory exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. Do not change the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. If these parts are changed, it is necessary to upgrade engine internals (Larger fuel pump, larger injectors, fuel) along with proper tuning"

JoneZZZ- thanks!

mrrsx350- ya, kinda thot that would get some attention..lol...thanks for the well wishes!

gargoyle, ya, i saw that in my instructions, too, but when i called hks, they said anything that's not stock besides the exhaust could cause you to run lean which as you know is risky for your engine, but i'm all about getting more out of this kit, so let us know what numbers you get with the plenum spacer. it would be great if you could do some dyno pulls with and without the spacer on this kit and post your results here. btw, i'm also running the kjr pulley along with a jwt fw, and the acceleration is awesome!
kudos to you for the self-install. my skill-level wasn't up to the task, so i had a professional do it. where in so cal are you? i'm in san diego. maybe we could get together sometime and do some runs.

Ya, I figured on the leaning out, but I also talked to Tony over at Motordyne, he did not seem to have any reservations...I'm gonna take it easy until I get my MONSTOR dyno'd...and see the A/F...if I start running lean, maybe I can get it tuned @ XS or SP...thanks again for the heads up...much appreciated!

I'm in Rowland Heights, near Walnut on the E, city of Industry on the W, West Covina on the N, and La Habra on the S. Gonna be changing shifts pretty soon (grave yard for over 2yrs!!!), gonna do more Irwindale and track events...hopefully. So HECK ya!!!

Also, I have found, as with any other mod there may be somethings that have to be addressed. 1st I have an OEM hood, but the intake pipe sits kinda high, possibly because of the ME plenum spacer, but I spoke to a member from the 350Zmotoring board, and per our conversation his pipe hits the hood also...Easy fix tho (see pix), I cut a hole in the hood to make room for the pipe, at the contact point, so not to grind a hole the pipe or the hood...
2ndly, the bracket "SCRAPED", barely mind u, the hood. The highest point of the bracket scrapes the hood, when the motor toruqes. Easy fix grind down the bracket a few thousands of an inch...problem should be solved. 3rdly, have not found the fix for it yet; the airbag light is on. The passenger seat needs to be removed to put the F-CON/S under the seat..I ASSUME that it is because the seats were disconnected, and reconnected..maybe some kinda reset.
Overall, the kit is fairly easy to install, just time consuming...Runs great!! Can't wait to get to the dyno. Unfortunately, I am off the next 2 days, and rain is expected here in Southern Cali-

ZBOY..thanks for the info..I tried it, but to no avail. Went to Street Image today, and problem solved, probably took a whole 3 min, if that!

sorry, that last answer was kinda vague..it's the "crash zone sensor code" ..just has to be reset. protocol is in the factory manual, or a code scanner/reset can do it, thanks again ERIC/Street Image for taking the time!
