Default Vortech = low torque? Riiiiight. 451hp/368tq Dynos inside!

I am speechless. I'm waiting at CPRacing as they tune my car and am talking to my buddy Bryan (Sloe Truk) about the pending weekend at Tail of the Dragon when mechanic Matt (there are 2 Matts at CPRacing) motions for me to step into the back.

Considering the number of minor annoyances that have come and gone during my 350Z FI experience, I expect to find we’ve hit some sort of obstacle. Instead, I stand there staring... speechless. Bryan asks if I'm still on the line. "Hello?"

Then I start to grin from ear-to-ear... "Umm, B. looks like my Z just made 457.9hp on the dyno."

The attached dyno speaks for itself. The savvy will note that the graph shows only 451.1rwhp. This is the final number I drove out with. When I saw the first figures, Eric had only adjusted the AF curve. No timing changes had been made. He suggested it would be wise to take out a little more timing to be safe. I agreed. He proceeded to fine tune the motor a little more (I honestly don't recall whether he said he took 2 or 3 degrees more out up top), but the output only dropped about 7hp.

So, here you have it. My Z with a boatload of other mods (but a stock bottom end) is now making 451.1rwhp and 368rwtq. Not the crushing torque numbers you see with a TT kit, but not exactly anemic either. (NOTE: the highest run was 457.9rwhp and 380rwtq)

Hats off to CPRacing (and especially Eric for his great tuning and patience with my repeated visits). They are simply the best when it comes to tuning!)

Ray P. & Jeremy B. - the bar has been raised!

I just noticed something about the earlier run. It looks like Eric got out of it early. it hit 457.9rwhp at 6300rpm. If he had held it as long as he did on the final run (shown in graphs above), the peak run probably would have hit high 460s!

I hadn not noticed this until I held the two dynosheets together up to the light and could see the overlapping graphs.

Here is the peak run graph...

DOH! I failed to ask about the boost. Eric mentioned nothing about it, so I assume I'm still running around 9lbs. Maybe one of those guys will see this thread and can post that up.

I was running 9lbs at time of last tune (when I had just installed the SSV and upgraded to the 3.12" pulley). Since then, I have added lightweight flywheel, a better clutch, and freed up something 'clogging' my cats. Nothing has been done to increase boost since the last tune.

I was at the last dyno day at Cprace and saw your car dyno. What caused it that day to dyno in the mid 300's if I recall correctly?

there is a 12% correction factor already on those numbers.

See if I can cover all the comments so far in one post...

I made 360hp that night (after the car had been tuned to 420rwhp a few weeks before that). Upon further examination later, Eric felt I may have a problem with my cats. The next weekend I dropped them to discover one cat looked fine, but the other had absolutely no catalyst material left in it at all! Cleaned out the second cat to match the empty one and noticed an immediate improvement. I'm convinced my ECU was wigging out big time since the o2 sensor on each side of the motor was giving very different readings.

I wish... dynojet correction factor already worked in. This would equal about 400hp flat uncorrected.

I have the 3.12" pulley and, as Will noted above, am making 9.5lbs of boost with that.

I can't say how the car feels. The tuning done today and, unfortunately, its been raining off and on all day. Roads were too wet to play much. Hope to be able to answer your second question better in the next couple of days.

is it me or is the A/F flirting with being a little lean up to 4500 rpms?

Not really... it hovers around 12 to 1 to that point. With a TT this may not be good, but with a centrifugal type SC, it should be fine. The motor is just starting to hit its sweet range and, as you can see, the AF dips down into the 11s after that point.

That is my relatively amateur interpretation. I'm sure Sharif, Eric, or someone else with more tuning experience could elaborate.

Great numbers! I didn't know the vortech could dump that much power to the wheels.

12:1 is just fine for that low of an RPM...TT or S/C. Where you really have to watch the A/F is in the last 1000rpms of the powerband. So much heat and pressure from the higher revs creates a much more inviting enviornment for detonation.

Great #'s mcduck! I would love to be even close to that when all is said and done with my built setup (but I won't have cams or SSV).

Do you still have the SS box and stock injectors? (I checked your mods and no mention of fuel setup).
