Question Switched to JIC Ypipe... loss in torque? exhaust quieter? WTF?

Tonite i swapped my stock Ypipe for the JIC

here's an generic image of the Ypipe..

the Ypipe was Thermal wrapped prior to install.

what's weird is:
1. Butt Dyno says my midrange grunt right off the line around 2k-3k rpms is now GONE!
2. My overall exhaust is quieter. much quieter.
3. I feel that the turbos spooling takes a bit longer? that can't be right.
4. high range seems to pull a little bit harder now.

any suggestions/comments?

i have the RSR Gt2 Mag as my catback and stock cats still...

thanks.

Cheston

You Legal Guy - You.....

Could be a pressure drop - Post Stock Cats - before exhaust = You wanted power to come up later than low end - Right?

Cheers Amy -

yea. i was just used to the low-end torque pull. i.e. back in your seat feeling (even as driver)

its not so much evident any more

maybe i need a retune...

Thats strange.. I had the Nismo Setup which included the Nismo Y-Pipe. I replaced it with the JIC Y-pipe. Things I noticed was:

1. The fit was AMAZING! Didnt have to push or pull anything!
2. The exhaust loudness at a certain spot is a TAD quiter
3. The exhaust at WOT has a lil rasp to it more of a hallow sound. Cant explain..
4. The top end power seem to be a lil better.
5. Car seems to be a lil more smooth in the power band..
6. The Torque between 2.5k and 3.5k seemed to realy be increased. Much more low-end/mid torque!

All points were REALY REALY small except the last 1 number 6...

I say get ride of the Cats, get a good A/F and Dyno. Then go for a Reflash fallow with a Dyno/ A/F so you can see what you did and where your at....

I suggest getting a dyno and seeing your powerband graphed out + AFR. Then, from there, you can determine if you need a retune or not. Let us know how it goes.

yea. i'm not saying the pipe didnt fit well. it's a really really nicely put together piece and bolted right up to the stock cats and my RSR..

i drove it around a little more and the high end is there.. much better pulling @ 5k+

ill try to make it to a dyno soon...and retune before my engine build.

by design it's going to lose some torque, but gain hp because it's straighter

not sure why it's quieter, when I replaced my nismo Y-pipe I swear it's louder

Not necessarily in a FI application. Any updates? Are we talking about FI? Not used to seeing cats, lol!

update is that this JIC Ypipe, quite possibly caused my right side turbo exhaust manifold to crack due to the 'stiffer' design... it doesnt flex as much as stock does.. so it might have possibly added some stress to the manifold..

i shouldnt dyno now with a cracked manifold its not going to be representative of the power gains i should be getting...
i'll need to do it after the cast ones are in... sorry .. just a string of bad luck i guess...
