Default I"m not understanding the prices for Turbonetics install

I called an install shop today to get my Turbonetics install done, and they quoted me on 19 hours of shop time from their experiences installing the Greddy, and APS single turbo. Is the Turbonetcs 8-12 hour install time realistic?

I don't like when people try to sell you something based on bull****. First the guy tells me "you bought a $35,000 car know step up and pay for the install". Soooo I payed a lot for my car, and I want to get @ss raped on an install? That makes sense. He told me Turbonetics never installed a turbo kit and as a result can't make a fair recomendation based on install time. We'll thats bullsh*t too. They installed Miaplaya's kit.

I'm a little dissaponted as this was a reputable shop.

Anyone know a Florida shop that won't @ss rape me and has experience installing the kit? Help !!

Repect

12 hours is accurate. My shop found that to be dead on. It may take a little longer if they go slower or have gauges to install but 12 hours is certainly a decent ballpark.

I was quoted 8 hours from Avalon Racing. They have done a ton of kits on Z's so far.

Absolutely...first install 12 hours...if they have done more then one then 10 hours is possible. I can't believe they are quoting 19 hours. Does that include gauges, piggyback, dynotuning, washing and handwaxing? Turbonetics has technically done 4 installs. Their 03 Z, My Z, a test 05 Z, and test 5AT Z, and oh yeah lets not forget the G kit. So technically 5 kits...How do they think Turbonetics hasn't done an install. They freaking DESIGNED the kit...Unbelievable...what shop was it?

I guess if you read enough posts, you will see just about everything....

I'd say 8 is pushing it but whatever.

As far as I know Avalon has not installed a Turbonetics yet. I could be wrong but as of a few weeks ago that was true. Jeff has installed a sheet load of SC's though. Of course they'll charge you more hours if it takes longer Please do not misunderstand, this is not meant to knock Avalon at all...

Yeah I think its pretty firm that 10 hours for someone who has done it before is all it takes...

Thanks for the quick responses guys. No guages. No tuning. Just the install of the kit.

The installer was Japtrix.

The comment "you bought a $35,000 car know step up and pay for the install" REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. I really hate the aftermatket auto industry. So many shady people. The whole process of finding a competent installer is really hit or miss.

I hope someone knows of an installer here.

So $800-$1000 is the max I should pay for just the kit install? That would be 10 hours at $80-$100 an hour labor rate. Correct?

Yes...I have quotes from several shops out here ranging from one man install shops to full on tuner fabricator shops...Highest quote of anyone who has installed was $1100 WITH guage install...Lowest was $850 no gauges...

Wow! I wasn't expecting that would be the shop. They have a great reputation and usually offer great install price. When I was shopping for a TT kit, that quoted me $1500 for the APS install. Most shops chagre @2500-$3000 for the APS TT install.

7-10 hours is the factory recomendend install time.. the install should be around 1300-1500.. Depends on the shop. If you want it done perfect.. I would advise taking a roadtirp to Sharif @ Fordged Internals! He will get the job done with perfection!

Jet if some guy told me that I would be pissed, that was very rude on his part. Also I paid something around $1200-1300 range, since some time has passed I can't remember the exact number... But I remember before considering to let a shop do the install of the kit along with my gauges with before and after dyno runs, I did a search on install costs... And found a thread on the topic where someone had said they wouldn't pay more than $1300 and I agree.

There are alot of shops in Florida, and like D350Z10 said... Sharif@Forged along with Carolina Performance Racing will do you right... And most honestly should be something to consider.

OK I was not going to step into this one, I have pm'd JETPILOT but wanted to clear some things up, I was there when the call took place, I am a partner in their parts business not the shop, and Roger A. wanted to send his apologies, his remark wasn't intended the sound as nasty as it looks in writing, just that we have paid good money for these cars and to save on some things is not that wise but of course getting screwed is not either.

The quoted price for the install was 1,500.00 to put it in dollar amounts rather than hours as someone can quote 10 hours but charges 200 an hour and where are you? They are doing their first Turbonetics install next week and suggested that the pricing might change once the install is done and they see if it really takes less time, I think that Roger C has a very good reputation for his work and makes sure the installs are done right not just slap it on and send you on your way. Hope that adds to the topic.

Just to be clear: TNetics says 10-12 which means 15 isnt that crazy. I don't ever remember seeing a 7-10 hour estimate????

The shop is estimating the time based on the other kits. They are all much more involved. I'm sure your price will be lower after they know the deal. Did you share the install instructions with them?

Westpak.... Tell Roger to give me a call after the first Turbonetics install is done. If his price is within reason I have no issues with having Japtrix install my kit

Get a pretty sounding secretary to answer the calls, and keep Roger in the garage somewhere where he can't get to a phone.

As a matter of fact we looked at them last night, main things I noticed were no fuel return but still have to go into fuel tank and modify, no piggyback to wire in, drill hole in engine block , a/c discharge and recharge for line install, no injector harness work. Man that kit has a ****load of tubes/manifolds and what a puny IC for the money the APS single seems a much better option IMHO

Not as many as you might think...

Also, what's the official deal with Sharif and CP Racing? I always refer people to CP Racing because they did a great job on my install and I've seen Sharif working/tuning cars there that run e-manage... Does he work for CP Racing?

He doesn't work there When he tunes a car he uses their facilities.
