Default quick question on EGT gauge

I have crawford headers and cats on my car

I'm adding a vortech kit

If I want an EGT gauge, does that go in my crawford headers? So does that mean my header(s) need to be removed? Or does the sensor go in the cat?

The best option would be to put it on the bottom of the driver's side header or on the #6 runner since this is notorious for running the leanest of all cylinders. You could put it on the cat but realize that the exhaust temp at the cylinder head is higher than what it would read the further downstream you go.

You should be able to get to the header just before the cat, towards the rear of the motor. It may be easier to install in the cat off the car. If you do this install it before the cat material.

ok so really to do it on the header would involve taking the header off then? I'm trying to avoid that since the crawfords are such a pain to take on and off. Guess I'll have it done on the cat just before the the actual cat

No sorry I may not have been clear. If you have a lift or jack stands and a good tool set you will not need to remove the headers. Basically just put it up and you should be able to drill directly into the headers just before where they connect to the cats. I was just trying to cover the possibility that you may not have all the tools like long drill bits or a lift or stand and stuff. Sorry if I confused the issue.

oh ok, awesome
yeah I'm having it done at a shop that knows what they're doing - I'm sure they could have told me all this too, but want to know as much as possible before going in to have work done.

thanks!

Didn't realise you made the final decision. Less of a risk for you over there than us guys over here (backup-wise)

yeah lately i've been debating vortech or ATI, and decided on vortech

if I go into why I'm choosing it though for my applications (road courses and autox - and yeah I know it won't be as fun as a ST or TT when driving on the street), this thread will turn into TT vs SC and I'll get a million PM's by 2-4 people why I'm wrong etc. But yeah I'm choosing vortech. I have the NA setup to make the vortech capable of making 400+whp which is probably enough for me really.
