Default Here we go... FI and first SES light. Comments please.

OK, I knew this journey wouldn't be without it's fair share of learning experiences and hopefully this will be an 'inexpensive' one.

This last weekend I had the JWT clutch and flywheel installed and everything seemed just about perfect. The noise or chatter was a total non-issue and the car pulls like a freak with the S/C. I was totally stoked until I got my first SES Light this morning on my way into work.

I've read posts where people get the "random misfire" code thrown (can't remember the code) with various FI setups, but never remembered seeing the Vortech owners with this problem. I was wondering, could anything with the clutch/flywheel install could have caused the light?

I plan on taking the car to the local, non-mod friendly Infiniti dealership later this afternoon (if I can get an appointment) but was wondering if there is anything I should be expecting?

BTW, temp gauge on the dash is normal, fuel pressure is normal, wideband is normal and I haven't hit boost since the light came on. Last oil change was 1250 miles ago and the car has 26300 on the odometer. Any thoughts?

Also, are there any other autoparts stores (Central Florida Resident here) that do free code reads? If so, what is that random misfire code again?

TIA

Autozone stores will read it for you if you have them in central Fla.
PO300 is misfire code.
Make sure the fuel cap is on tight it can pop as code I believe.
Good luck!

I found out some interesting info that some of you may not know. Infiniti's are set up with a warning system. If the SES light comes on and stays SOLID, the car is safe to drive. If the light comes on and flashes, it's time to pull over and call road side assistance.

My light is on solid and I haven't added gasoline in 150 miles. Unfortunately I doubt it's the gas cap.

Time to go look for the nearest Auto Zone Location...

BTW, a link to a good code reader for $25 would be really nice. Would something that cheap really work?

Don't be so sure its not the gas cap...i swear I had that thing on correctly tons of times right after I put the TT kit on but it kept on coming on anyway, then for some reason it just didn't anymore, not real sure why.

I saw your post in the engine codes thread and I'm not sure if self diagnostic mode work on 04.5+ G's considering I have an 03 Z. But like the others said, for this one time go to autozone and later on grab a obd scan tool if you can't get self diagnostic mode to work.

Flashing can also mean a pending code. I keep a code reader in the backseat!

+1

Lightened flywheels can cause misfire codes

It just kills me that people buy all these turbos and superchargers, yet don't buy a code reader before hand. Any car that I buy and plan on doing ANYTHING to I make sure my code reader can read and clear codes.

one of the coolest code readers i have ever seen is here http://aeroforcetech.com/. they say it will be available in a few months for the Z, just need more people to hound them about it. will read codes and clear them but also looks just like a gauge and will read out all ecu functions in real time while driving. like KNOCK sensor!!! like REAL timing!!! lol.

I just keep a list of code meanings in the seatback pouch so I can no what the flashes are in self diagnostic mode. No need to spend extra money on a code reader when you don't have to...even if it is more of a hassle.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know that about lightened flywheels and neither did the local mod friendly dealer that did the install. What code should I expect to see?

Also, I will be buying a code reader really soon. I just never threw a Service Engine Soon light before and didn't understand the need for one before now. I hope you aren't really dying or anything, I just couldn't live with myself...

Looking at your signature suggests you can spring for $30.0 which is what a read and clear tool costs.. Besides the fun of using it..

I kinda think it is more fun doing it all mechanically actually. I know, I'm weird Maybe one of these days I will get tired of doing it manually and grab one off ebay.

Default Update... Good News

I went by the closest, non-mod friendly, Infiniti dealership and had them pull the code. It was a P1273 (lean A/F Sensor 1 and Bank 1) The engine was at idle when they took the code and the A/F Sensor 1 on Bank 1 read 1.375 Volts. The 'nominal' reading is 1.3 so they said everything looked fine.

The technician told me that my car was running a little bit lean at idle, but when I told him about my headers, h/f cats and exhaust components he said that was normal and cleared the code.

:Breathes a sigh of relief:

Bullet #1 dodged and the car is still pulling like a FREAK! This FI game certainly is fun. Let's keep playing.
