Red face

Dude.......take a deep breath and go....UMMMMMMMMMM

Mine is getting better.....it seems to be loosening up some.

I did have the Nissan dealer raise my idle up to about 850 and that helped.

I also found a sweeter spot with the belt.

Sorry.....it is kinda the nature of the beast.....like rocks in a blender.

It is growing on me.....kinda a "good rattle"......

Mine makes a "very" minor rattle noise. Here are 2 things that I would check.
  1. Are the bolts that hold the pullies to the jacksaft tight? Mine loosened and the "noise" got louder. (i.e. bolts in a coffee can)
  2. Is the cogged pulley touching the clamp on the intake tube? This can be an issue.

HTH

g8tor20 - I feel your pain. I just had it installed on my car a little over a month ago and i get the same embarrasing rattle. It literally sounds like a diesel truck. What I used to do at each stop light was put it in neutral and hold the rev's around 800rpms...problem solved. As you can imagine, that process is annoying in itself at every red light. Since I have an '03 Coupe, today, I had the dealer raise the idle to around 600 when in D and it's about 850 when in Park. They said they could only raise it 250 RPM's. The sound has quieted down "a little" but it's still completely obvious. I'll mess around with the cog belt a little more. I can hear the rattle in cabin too which is just plain stupid.

Maybe I'll just raise the idle to 3500rpm's and just always be in boost. LOL No need for a smaller pulley!

Wink

Funny.....this guy just posted this on 350 motoring forum....

"ok, just got my vortech sc installed by certified technician. When the engine is started (cool engine) the sc sounds normal, but once it heats up a little, the sc unit sounds pretty loud like a diesel truck engine. Belts dont squeak at all but you can definately hear it. I expect for it to be loud, but at what level is normal. my idle rpm is about 500-600. At higher rpm (1000+) the "diesel engine" sound is gone as you can hear the unit spool up. Any help would be appreciated. thanks"

Hahahahahha. Maybe Vortech should actually do something about it. I wish mine just sounded like a Diesel truck. Mine sounds like a 1985 Monte Carlo that looks like they bought it for $100 bucks up the road at the "shady" used car lot that has all of 4 cars. You know what I mean.

The more I think about it....I'm thinking of making a trip to CP Race. I have to get a retune anyways after plenum spacer and exhaust. Just don't want another 1K on the odometer and $250 in gas

Eeekkk.

Just using Yahoo maps

Ocala to Charlotte: 481 miles. 7hrs and 24 minutes

Ocala to Roswell: 389 miles. 7 hrs and 53 minutes
Rosewell to Charlotte: 273 miles. 5 hrs and 7 minutes

Consensus....I'll stick to I95 and avoid central GA. Thanks for the invite though

i opted against the vortech when i heard one idle. for that reason only. even at the higher cost and lower hp, i chose the hks cuz it's quiet at idle. sound is important to me, maybe moreso than other people, but that's just me. its just like test pipes and rasp. i am rasp intolerant, and i just won't stand for it, even at the cost of higher hp, but some people don't mind the extra noise.

I get the same rattle at ide.....sounds like there's something loose inside the blower, not reallly bothersome, but it seems to get louder when colder outside. I love the power though and so far, this system has been very reliable for me and I have had no problems for the most part.

Booger - you have the upgraded blower - does it sound any different. Can you tell us about the ungrade in general anyways, I'd like to hear your impressions, you have a sweet setup...

Aaron
