was curious if anyone has had a chance to install or tune with the utec yet. i have now had my car together for 3 months and have gone through an e-blue, an eu, and my stock ecu, plus 4 coils. my car has yet to run correctly except for the first hour when it was completed. i was always joking about getting it done in time for the snow, but looks like that may even be to early of a prediction!
i noticed the timing control on the utec uses real timing inputs in degrees and is plug and play. it would eliminate the need for reflashes associated to the stock ecu timing map changing. is this true or am i understanding it wrong. i am also interested on the knock control functions of the unit.

I suppose it's time to come out of lurk mode. I work with Jermaine at TurboXS. I am the shop manager, and with the release of the zUtec just around the corner this topic looks like a good spot to give a quick update on the tasks that need to be completed prior to shipping.
The first batch of the zUTECs is on their way to us now. I expected them while we were at SEMA, but they were delayed because the bench test procedure could not be automated prior to the departure of key TurboXS staff for the SEMA show. This caused a slight delay as testing each and every connection by hand is rather time consuming. I expect the first small batch of the zUTEC to arrive sometime later this week.
Before they can be sent out two important tasks must be completed. First, we must finish the documentation. Jermaine and I will be collaborating on this. He will write the actual install instructions, and I’ll do the rest of the documentation. We’d like to have this finished and to the printers by late Wednesday afternoon, but with yesterday being almost a throwaway day trying to catch back up from SEMA it might not happen until Thursday.
Secondly, we need to get a few more stock cars on the dyno to do some data logging for base-map building. The zUTEC is quite a bit more advanced then any ECU product we’ve ever released, so much so that we almost don’t even want to call it a UTEC, and as such it requires much more work on our part to make sure that the base maps are actually usable. Our intention at this point is to provide a limited number of MAF pull down based maps as well as a few speed-density, injector pulse width maps. This map library will grow, but at the start will be somewhat limited. With this in mind, it is likely that actual tuning shops will get first dibs on the zUTEC for use in cars they intend to actually dyno tune as their efforts will help us grow our library. We will also give some preference to cars that we can get here on our dyno to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible with this product release.
Lastly, each zUTEC will need to start and drive Jermaine’s car as a pass/fail test.
Based on the above, it is likely that we will be shipping units out a few at a time starting Monday. By the middle of next month we should be up to full capacity
For the most part Jermaine is going to be handling the Z market, so you’ll likely hear much more from him then you do from the rest of the TurboXS crew. However, we are all very excited about this new ECU as its capabilities and performance set a new bar for our electronics products. It’s also nice to have another group of car owners around the shop.
To answer your technical questions, the zUTEC has absolute timing control with a built in knock retard scheme (which is user definable) to allow you to determine how the unit reacts to feedback from the knock sensor. It also gives you the ability to increase your rev-limit. These features will save you a few bucks since you do not need to purchase a re-flash to use with the zUTEC. In addition since it plugs in, it will save you from purchasing a wiring harness. If you intend to run the car in speed density, the only thing you’ll need to purchase is a TurboXS map sensor.
…back to work

does anyone know how the beta testing went? My motor is being built right now and I want a great tune with minimal problems! the zUTEC sounds very promising, but I guess there is always a risk when you are one of the first to try it out.
