The UTEC probably should be considered as an Evolution of Stand-Alone systems. While our modern vehicles become more and more complicated in order for an Engine Management System to be placed into these cars it has to have the ability to work in unison with the factory ECU. Every year since we have introduced our first UTEC model we have been forced to become more and more complicated with the items the car needs to drive. We do this to give the customer the option at the end of the day to make modifications to the vehicle and pass these OBD scan/Emissions procedures.

I honestly expect more of the engine management systems to swing over to our direction of Parallel Engine Management Systems than us going further away from our tried and true path.

The UTEC has drivers for all the items that count with power production. We Drive the Injectors and we also drive the Ignition Coils. The UTEC has the ability to control fuel by allowing "YOU" to go to a fuel table at 250 rpm increments and allow "YOU" to input injector pulse width. The UTEC has the ability to allow "YOU" to control ignition timing by opening the timing table and enter a Degree Before Top Dead Center in the table.

The basic's of engine management are Fuel Control & Timing Control and Tunability.

The UTEC gives "YOU"- The USER the ability to have a TUNABLE ENGINE COMPUTER.

That is a good way to look at it... a standalone that allows the stock ECU to remain for a more seemless integration.

We have to do the same thing when we put Motecs in the new SRT Vipers, the stock ECU has to remain for functionality of everything else.

In my opinion (like it really matters) the FCON is the best. I did not think this in the begining because I found it very hard to trust someone to the tuning aspect of it since I coud not find anyone reliable to do it all. But I have finally found someone that got me over the 500hp barrier. I was originally going to ship the car out to ship the car out to Shariff due to the trust factor I had with the tuners out here in Kilafornia.

P.S. Shariff, I have been trying to get a hold of you (left a message on your celly). Please call me.

I am really looking forward to hearing about the UTEC upgrade from those that already have FI. Both kits sound great, but the HKS is pretty pricey IMO.

autotune isnt precise, u still need to do fine tuning.

ZRAYGO..I never got your message. Call me becuase I dont have your new cell number.

To me, the biggest disadvantage to the HKS FCON is that only HKS Certified PRO dealers can sell and tune the gear. Which means that you must have a tuner nearby, that is HKS Pro Certified, and they are few and far between.

In terms of fuel and timing control, which are obviously the two most important and crtitical parameters to control, the UTEC offers 100% complete control. So in that respect it is a full standalone, even though the stock ECU remains...its a great approach.

+1 on what sharif said about needing a HKS pro dealer to tuning anything I drive 2 hours just to have my car tuned but I love the v pro and knock amp combo.

Must be terrible to have to drive that far or even ship your car to get tuned, my Vpro tuner is 10 minutes away. I never really thought the vpro was that big of a difference, until i had it.
heres a my stock TT dyno 336hp

and here are my Vpro runs, compare boost *top left too HP *bottem left, notice the power curve's

its not that the tuner is so far away its that there are very few here in california (4 in southern cali to be exact). The problem is that they all claim to have the knowledge to tune the car but really there are only about maybe 2 that can really do it and do it well. Then they charge you your first born to get the car tuned and charge a minimum of 2hrs.

its about 500.00 to tune a vpro, i think it takes 10 minutes and 500.00 is a rip off, but you gotta play to pay

Out of curiosity, who did you take your car out for the tune of the VPRO? (since we both live basically around the same area (951/626) )

I took the car to GT Motorsports in Rancho Cucamunga. Talk to Sam. Very good people. Very up front. They have an 800hp street driven 350Z there. The place is huge, its got about6-8 lifts and the warehouse is about 1 million square feet (give or take a few thousand). Tell him Ray sent you. Sharif, the only thing that got me was his price. Way below the price I was going to have to ship the car. But believe me man, if you were here, I would have done it in a heart beat (you know ahat Im speaking of). Oh and I just left you another message with my home and celly #.

I got it buddy! I totally understand man..you are a good guy in my book. Shipping a car from CA to NC is not cheap, so I completely undersanding you going to GT. They are good guys over there, from what I have heard, and I am sure you'll be in good hands.

Best of luck...I just left you a voicemail.
