Default TurboXS UTEC + MRC = 510whp

For a few weeks now we have been playing with Julian from MRC Motorsports vehicle. I might add it is one bad *** show car. Julian was very trusting to put the vehicle into our hands to help develop the Z UTEC and give us a platform capable of respectable results. After replacing his waste-gate actuators of his APS Kit with stronger units. We were able to put it back on the dyno and make some decent dyno numbers @ 13.5 PSI. I have a feeling we have some power left on the table with a less restrictive exhaust.

Mods:
Built Bottom End
APS TT Kit
Forge Motorsports Actuators
APS Dual 2.5 inch Exhaust
APS Tall Boy Plenum
TXS DTEC-bc-pro
TXS Z UTEC

We have finally reached a place where we are happy to release the Z UTEC. As of 12/2/05 you will be able to purchase UTEC's from your dealer of choice. UTEC's will be in Limited Availability.

Thanks to MRC Motorsports for letting us use their beast, unit can also be purchased from them as well.

Thanks,

Jermaine@turboxs.com

Nice numbers, but I didn't know the APS 2.5" was so restrictive.

When will the next batch of UTEC's go into production?

The Turbochargers used in this kit have alot more potential than they showed. The way the vehicle wanted to run low ignition advance as we started to turn up the boost. It is common to see on a high back pressure system.

UTEC production is an ongoing production we'll have unit's rolling in weekly.

Thanks,

Jermaine~

Thanks Jermaine. If I end up keeping my car, I am ditching the EU for the UTEC.

Can you give me more info on how the UTEC compensates a/f when the weather changes?

Gman,

Air density can be calculated. The UTEC has a Temperature Compensation map that allows you to input the temp corrections. We currently have an in house calculator that you can use to come up with the required settings.

Thanks,

Jermaine~

Those numbers seem strange

I have built lower end 8.8:1 CR and my torque is considerably higher at a comparable boost level.

I have 480 tq at 14 psi. Due to fuel issues, I couldn't hold boost to redline so I am limited to 450 HP.

I would think at that power/boost level, the aps 2.5" would be way more than enough. This is the first I have heard of the exhuast being restrictive. Just to check, this car is running test pipes correct?

it sounds to me that they are running with Cats which would explain the restrictions

Am I correct with that assumption?

The higher torque on your vehicle could be due to running higher ignition advance around peak torque. At 13 or so psi the car was fine. It seemed like when you are starting to push higher boost levels like 17+ you are in a different ball game as far as power output goes.

Thanks,

Jermaine~

P.S. These are my theologies so, if you don't agree that's fine.

You can order the UTEC's here. The first batch is pretty limited, but we should have enough to cover the pre-orders plus a few extra. http://www.forgedinternals.com/store...cat=268&page=1
Special pricing is good until Christmas.

Jermaine, nice work my friend, I will be calling you on Monday.

I am interested in your timing curve that you came up with, will this tune come with as a base/startup calibration? Not many people out there have a true timing map that I can compare to mine that I built in the FCON.

Is this with Cams? On others with built APS TTs + JWTs, here in Cali on 91 (8.5-9SCR), we've seen ~+40rwhp at similar boost levels and still Unichip based.

IIRC, Julian has a totally stock head...no cams or headwork.

For the purposes of contributing data only..

I made 530 rwhp, 475 torque at 12.5 psi @ 7000 rpm with APS TT, APS 2.5" exhaust, APS downpipes, Crawford cast intake, and JWT cams. My ECU doesn't cut fuel until 7500 rpm, but we had to stop tuning due to a slipping clutch. I imagine that 550 rwhp is a definite possibility at 12.5-13 psi by revving it out higher.

(I will be installing a new clutch (my 3rd setup..) in the next few weeks and I may put it back on the dyno to see what it does.... I plan to go to the 3.5" downpipes and 3" exhaust and running 14-15 psi in the future, I am hoping for 600, which seems very reasonable)

The heads on the car were factory. So revving it higher would only make a steaper drop off. Not to mention the car doesn't sound happy to be revved that high. I expect to see 30 to 40 whp on this car with cams and mild head work. I'm not really comparing these number to other cars. With it's current power level it has gone 120+ mph trap speed in the in the quarter mile.
