Default SF Bay Area Turbo Installer

What's up everyone ...

I've been checking out this forum for a while and I've been pretty quiet, but I'm about ready to make some noise.

Got a question for all those people who have turbos from the Bay Area ... who should I go to: Ted over at Scotts Performance or Rob over at Z Car Garage? I'm thinking about getting an APS TT.

Thanks!

My vote personally goes to Rob at ZCarGarage .

But my suggestion...talk to both shops personally & also get feedback from APS owners who have installed their kits at those shops. I'd also check if anyone had any negative experiences. Good luck & welcome!

I say ZCG offer great customer service and do great work. SP is also do a great job and they have been able to push great number with the APS. Aslo they offer 12month/12k warranty. Can't beat that. MHO either one you will be happy.

I went with Scott Performance in Santa Clara and have been pleased. I have had my car for about two months without any issues. I am at work now and I just day dream about driving my car...especially since it has gotten cold here in Northern California. That car is strong in the cold weather. Just keeping an eye on that boost gauge for any spikes. Personally I think both shops would do you right. I just went with Ted because I thought I could get better tuning especailly since he has an in house LOAD BASED DYNOMETER.

Well Ted will be cheaper up front. UNTIL YOU GET THE BILL!!! He screwed me out of about 500.00 over some Cams. He just did the VERY same thing to another guy on the 350z site. On the other hand Rob is VERY up front and LOVES the Z&G, he eats and sleeps them! Rob will not push you into anything. They Both know the VQ very well the diffrence is Ted loves to tell you about how he knows it. You also might want to take a look at the guys that work in the shop. I know I wouldnt want some guy that came from changing oil pulling my motor! Happy boosting!

Here's what I'd do, Check out SP first and see what time frame and cost is associated OTD, then check with Zcargarage. Their facilities and team say alot about their work.

I have had the APS TT's on longer and more miles than anyone else in the bayarea. I had mine installed at Zcg. They take great pride and service in their work.

Pay no attention to where some or myself have gotten theirs installed and check it out yourself and go where you feel comfortable. Thats the end gratification. And there are some growing pains there is a no issues what so ever when re-inventing the wheel, thats plain and simple. Most are not serious or that bad. Just lil annoyances if you want to call them anything.

Both can tune the System, both have dyno rooms or dyno's and both have many aps customers. If you want I can even arrange a ride in mine since i work right by there and all that know me, know that i am honest and give my opinion good or bad.

Good luck

Another vote for Rob at ZCG. He's a very enthusiastic and knowledgable guy.

I like both shops...I've had work done at both shops. Most recently at SP. I've referred people to ZCG.

IMO, Ted is a little more technical.

You're in good hands either way. I think Rob just gets more props because he has a nice shop and has a collection of excellent rides, esp. the GT-R.

Good luck!

Call Ted up and ask him anything you want to know and how he backs his work...do the same with Rob and you'll pick Ted...A couple of guys hear have had misunderstandings with Ted imo that is why they would recommend Rob...Also all prob I've had with my car Ted fixes no extra charge even if he has to work on it 10 extra hrs...most shops slap the kit in and anything that happens from the sec you drive away is your bad and you have to pay to get it fixed....Just call them both and make your own decision....

You guys are so ignorant. Ted only sounds more technical because he was and is a salesman. I don't know about you, but if I knew I did good work, I wouldn't have to advertise, offer a guarantees, or undercut competing shops just to get business. Just because Ted claims he is the only one that can tune the APS or Unichip, doesn't mean it's true.

Not only does Rob know the ins-and-outs of 350Z's, but just about any other Nissan or Datsun vehicle as well. If you think the GT-R is cool, you haven't seen any of the custom vehicles he's built.

Also, Rob has VERY experienced people working with him at the shop. You people tend to focus on Rob vs. Ted when you shouldn't. Z Car Garage as a whole has a lot more experience from top to bottom.

I will admit that Rob, Rico, Vince, Luke, Paul and others associated with ZCG are my friends and I am biassed. But unlike some others who have posted on this thread, I am not going to tell anyone where to go to have work done on their car. Just stand back and observe how each shop is run and pick the one for you.

If you were the ****, would you tell everyone? Don't talk about it, BE about it!

I think you should call and better yet visit both shops and talk with them. I know the guys at Z car garage and I like those guys. I have not been to ZCG since it was started but I hear it has more space than SP. They can do you a APS install and i guess they can tune it too.
What i can tell you about SP is that the owner Ted has 12 years experience with Ferrari racing engines and he has excellent technical support stemming from his contacts in that background and he has some excellent Nissan contacts. SP is a authorized APS dealer and installer. SP is a Unichip certified tuner and dealer. Sp has the Dastek Load Based Dynamometer and there is no dyno more accurate than this one. Ted consistantly achieves higher than average performance numbers than anyone around here. As for the warrenty, well, a warrenty is as a warrenty does. I guess he can do that because he knows his tunes are safe.

Peace

It doesn't matter. Their are going to be plenty of Z's and G's to keep both shops nice and busy. Neither shop is going away and I think it is good for our little community here that both of these shops exist. Competition keeps both shops better. That is good for all of us. Hey when the GTR comes out then things should get interesting.

Guess what so is ZCG they both can do all that. And Dastek is like an Amway dyno. Its a friggen smog dyno.

AFter the dyno day everyone knows the numbers are fake, cuz they read Hp at the wheels or crank or driveshaft. Wherever. Their Marajuana numbers cuz their high like the dyno. All they are a numbers anyway, its how it performs.
