Yup. The Nissan five speed auto transmissions use matic J and the four speeds use matic D. The Murano uses some kind of weird green fluid for the CVT. LOL

As a former infiniti tech, When I went to training on the g35 model, I ask the question about the trans fluid. The Matic J that you can only get at nissan infiniti dealers has differnt friction modifiers that Matic D which is what is used in the older 4 speeds. Now I ask nissan engineers what would happen if the two mixxed, what I was told would be transmission slipage and impending doom of a failed trans. So if it was my car I would stick with the matic J. I have a friend with a auto g35 sedan with a vortech and I am working on a trans cooler setup for it. SO STICK WITH THE MATIC J not worth the risk.

I wouldnt use anything unless it had been proven to work first . My tranny will have a trq. converter and a SGP valve body . Tranny cooler will be next . It will be over $100.00 to fill the dam thing up . Guess you can charge what you want when your the only one making fluid for it

Booger, I was just going to start looking into this after our discussion on other thread. Hard for me to believe Nissan fluid is the ONLY one we can use, but better to be safe than sorry. Keep us posted. I'll let all know what I find also.

Any updates on this? I was wondering if there was a better tranny fluid out there since I am F/I, like many other 5AT guys out there.

For what its worth......

"Here's a cut-and-paste from the Nissan-Infiniti TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) addressing Nissan Matic-J fluid, the ATF flavor that's spec-ed for the G35/350Z.......

SERVICE INFORMATION

If the automatic transmission in the new Q45 (F50) or G35 (V35) requires service, a new type of
automatic transmission fluid MUST be used. The new fluid is Nissan Matic-J.
The New Nissan Matic-J
• Only Nissan Matic-J automatic transmission fluid (P/N 999MP-MTJ00P) is specially formulated to meet the
exacting requirements of Infiniti's new 5-speed automatic transmission (RE5R05A).
• The RE5R05A transmission contains new internal components that require the use of
Nissan Matic-J only!
CAUTION:
• Usage of Nissan Matic-D or any other automatic transmission fluid in the RE5R05A 5-speed automatic
transmission will cause deterioration in driveability and transmission durability.
• Do NOT use any other fluid for the RE5R05A 5-speed automatic transmission, only use Nissan Matic-J.
• Use of any other fluid may result in damage to the RE5R05A 5-speed automatic transmission, which will
not be covered by the INFINITI warranty......"

Regarding pricing on the J-matic fluid....

My car developed a leak in one of the tranny fluid lines last year...after fixing the line I drove another vehicle to the dealership for more fluid.

Asked the parts guy for three quarts...he said "I can sell you a gallon cheaper"...so O-k. Best I remember it was like $5 dollars for a gallon can of the fluid. If you're replacing with OE fluid might want to check this out at your local dearship.
