Default Greddy Twin Autocrossing?

Hey all! I've been stalking this section of the forum for months now. debating on what to do, reading everything about all the kits... and I still havent been swayed enough away from the Greddy TT! I love the Turbonetics and I cant wait to feel it in person on Trent's Z here in michigan but I still love the idea of faster spooling with the TT of the Greddy or APS.

But heres the situation... I've raced now for two years Solo Comp. II Autocrossing in michigan and I love every bit of it! I have a great suspension and tune on it and dont really need the more horsepower because the Z just tears it up out there with the few mods I do have! Plus I know power isnt gonna make me any better at autocrossing only experience... but this is the question...

I want to run lower boost for safety on the engine reasons + I just do not need the extreme amount of power as the straight line guys want. Will the Greddy TT run well at lower boost around 4.5lbs or even 4lbs... I know I'll see a noticeable different in power but will it be lacking a lot compared to full boost of the stock flash...

Also... I do not know everything about turbo kits... the greddy includes all the parts that I will need to have it installed but since I want to run a lower amount of boost I will need a boost controller correct? or does the management that comes with the Greddy allow me to do this? What parts will I need to have this system run safe and yet well with lower boost and possiblity of setting it to stock boost if I would like too?

Plus will my exhaust be facing any problems with have the kit installed? I have a HKS ti. Dual exhaust with test pipes...

One more... can I use my crawford plenum?

Price is a factor... I'm a grad student and dont have the 10k like some of you can throw at it plus I'll need new tires this season... so after the kit what will I need to make it safe but at the same time... only things that are necessity

Any help will be great!! Thanks!

why not just get the stillen SC kit? sounds like it'll do what you want power-wise and cost a fraction of the cost of a TT setup. Some of the FI people who autox prefer the stillen over any other FI kit

agreed, sounds like the stillen might be up your alley. 1/2 the cost of even a basic tt, plus easy install. don't forget the new hood or atleast scoop though too.

not only that but it weighs a bit less, though the weight is higher up, so maybe it's a draw in that case. Still though the stillen SC has a great reputation of being reliable vs the greddy's not so great reputation - where you gotta know what you're doing for it to not blow your engine.

turbos aren't the greatest choice for autox.

I hate the sound of an SC...

but how about these questions then...

With the Vortech Supercharger Kit will I need engine management and what not also? Which ones do you go with for a supercharger instead... cuz you control boost by the pulley so does it need only engine management?

I like the vortech better than all the SC's.

The stillen really whines compared to the vortech. A TT setup just doesn't sound like what you're going after IMO for autox

The Z's top end is what needs the most work IMO and the vortech does that. You can get low end tq just by getting a light clutch and some 3.9 gears - they'll at least speed you thru the tq

yes you'll need some sorta engine management - as you will with any FI kit, though many include their own. The Vortech kit has it's own, but you can get the tuner kit where it's up to you to get your own EMS

got ya! It looks like vortech is what im gonna have to go with for price and for the racing reasons... I did just send a PM to a guy about a Greddy TT and if he can really give it to me for that price I'm gonna ****** that up just cuz its a great price...

but vortech looks like where its at... now I just gotta learn everything there is to know about them

If you're pretty happy with your current power I'd think about getting a few more NA mods... maybe the 3.9, a clutch/flywheel combo, some sort of engine management that will allow you to adjust A/F ratios and add in some timing.... that route would be cheaper and likely more reliable in the long run.

thats true... but I love the feel of boost... the past month has been flip flopping between...

Turbonetics Single
Greddy Twin Turbo
Vortech Supercharger

but I think the Turbonetics will win me over in the next week
