We got the car on the road last night after what turned out to be lengthy guage install.

I talked to GRD about the amount of preload to run, and got that all set to go. We got things buttoned up and put the shield on under the turbo, and headed out for a test drive. HOLY ****, the car felt awesome. Decently comparable to the twins out of box. A bit more turbo lag, but saying that is being picky.

With the weather being cold (actually relatively warm for us now) and the road conditions, we only ran it up to about 6 grand or so. The car held at just below 10 psi the ENTIRE time. We could not see any boost tapering at all.

At this point, it doesn't seem to be afflicted by the check valve issue, though we really didn't let it sit since the test drive. Still I am feeling confident that it won't.

The only 'bad' we had is that occasionally, we are getting a bit of rattle from the heat shield near the turbo. with clearances so tight I expected a rattle or two. We will get the car up on the hoist and see if we can bend the shields a little bit more to rememdy/prevent this.

I had read about numerous issues with this kit, the most concerning to me were the check valve and boost tapering, both of which, we had no trouble with at this point.

All in all, the install took a little longer than I expected, but was worth it in the end.



FYI:
>2004 touring 6spd - with 22K on the odometer

Blake (the owner of the APS ST Z) drove in the TN car before it popped - he can let you know how the APS ST compares

My statement is the truth. I am not trying to start anything by it. I would like to drive a TN setup for comparison, but as I stated above, I cannot at this time.

Zivman - I dont think you'll have any issues with the checkvalve. APS found that there were 20 or so defective valves and the situation should be rectified by now....

Just to be on the safe side I'd go ahead and get the revised electronic solenoid from GRD so you don't have any bigger issues later on like my expensive MAF sensor being replaced.

The kit was one that was purchased during the original group buy. The car was driven until today and is now put away till march. At that time, the car will be going to GRD for a tune. I think the best course of action is to have GRD replace it when it goes down for the tune.

yes winter in MN is kind of bummer. He had two 40 degree days to drive the car after a good solid week of highs in the teens.

He said looking at the car in storage with the kit installed was better than looking at the 2 big boxes of parts sitting in his house

thats true that would kill me to stare at the boxes.......but still kill me if i couldnt drive my newly turbo'd z..............def bummer

Digital readout part of AEM wideband reads 10.0+

My aem dosen't read below 11.0. After that it just gets 3 dashes on the display.
