This is not correct. The AEM and UTEC are both parallel ECU's, but they function just a like full stand alone, in terms of fuel and timing. Honestly for street cars, the trend is going to be piggy-back style ECU's, but with full control over the engine, rather than dedicated stand-alones, where the stock ECU is removed. There is no reason to have a stand-alone controlling the engine at idle, cruise, and part throttle, as it adds tuning complexity, hassle, and time to the process....given that the stock ECU works nicely under these situations.

Although I welcome AEM's involvment, I have little faith that anyone will bring something to market soon. Sounds like Sound Performance is working on something, but given the number of false alarms in regards to an AEM EMS, I will temper my excitement, until I see a few test units running on cars.

u sure its the ems then? the ems replaces the stock ecu, u pull out the stock one and insert the aem into the factory harness.

this might be a different kind of aem product.

The current AEM EMS's on the market, such as the units for the Evo and Honda world, replace the stock ECU. However, the VQ35 variant will be a parallel style ECU. The VQ35 is unique, becuase we have a CAN bus network, so reomving the ECU is not feasible. Same concept as the HKS FCON...the stock ECU remains.

Last time I spoke to a rep from AEM at a trade show, he said they dookie canned the fuel rails due to the fact they were not visible on our cars so much for form following function..He also stated the EMS was "in the works"...This was of course 1.5 years ago And we have heard little since.I would not put my faith in a prduct that is vapor ware at this time..This reminds me of the ol' DREAMWORKS incident..

Sweet! Looks like the UTEC will have some competition.

What amazes me is the faith people put in VAPORWARE..The AEM was supposed to be out a long time ago and never developed, while the UTEC seemingly appeared out of no where to the surprise of many, myself included. FWIW the AEM has never been able to come close to the UTEC's level of performance in the WRX,STI world and I expect this to hold true in the 350Z world. By the time AEM releases a functional product,if they ever do, the UTEC will be so fine tuned on the 350Z that there will be no reason to try anything else.I love AEM products and think their systems are great, and in no way am I bashing them or putting their product down, I just think they will be a day late and a dollar short on the 350z ECM market..

I agree. I am tempering my enthusiasm for an AEM EMS, until I actually see one running on a VQ35. It's one thing to talk about doing it, and actually making it in a nice PnP platform. Putting an AEM on a VQ35 is no problem, but getting it to work with drive by wire, and allowing for PnP setup is a completely different thing. With the current EMS options on the market, I dont see a whole lot lacking from the current offerings.

Yes, you will see about 10-15whp improvement in NA form, assuming you have a good collection of free flowing mods, such as exhuast, test pipes, plenum, etc.
Then when FI comes, you will just need to add a MAP sensor, and retune.

my car the PE TT on 8.4psi and through a tiny 2.25" Injen exhaust got 428whp and 463wtq but the tune was not completley finished. i think it still may have had some power left in it but we were in a hurry to get the other car done. were putting a 3" exhaust on soon and raising the boost some more so we will have better numbers then. as for the ati procharged z it made 381whp and 336wtq on 9lb pullies.

LOL...yeah...it was a mini-exhuast. I'll come back down there and I can tune it some more with the 3 inch exhaust, and the heavier boost actuator spring.

I don't see why you would make more more peak hp with a larger exhaust. The turbo will spool faster, and reach peak boost at a lower RPM but unless you increase the boost your peak hp will stay the same.
