Default Got big hp? But why?

Recently I was reading on this forum and then went for a spirited drive. As I was driving I thought to myself what's the point of more? I'm running around 410 whp I have volks w/ 10.5 in rear tires. The tires are potensa s03s. I've got no traction as it is. I am friends with a few other fi z owners in the chicago area who claim to have the same problems. So I guess my question is why are you guys building your motors and racing to 700whp what's the point of getting there? I couldn't imagine anything over say 525 even being controllable. Am I missing the boat here is there some big traction secret I am missing? Obviously I could upgrade my suspension but is that really gonna make a difference? Or are you guys just going for bragging rights?

Put a set of M/T tires on it, and you'll know why.

I put on bfg dr's to daily drive and the difference is amazing....I can actually use my power...well some of it....Now I grip halfway into second..where on reg street tires I'd burn all the way through 3rd....big difference.... Anything over 400whp should use drs IMO...1st gear is a joke in 300whp and above due to our cars ****ty *** short *** gearing....

Some of us race street bikes from a 60 punch on the freeway. That is why I do it. Stop light racing is for AWD cars. Besides, it is much safer to race on the highway.

Good everyone else has the same prob. Does any one runs 19s? I'm looking for a sticky tire for my 19's. I just didn't know traction was going to be such an issue. Now that i'm spolied with my 19's i don't want to get 18s

I got the Michelin PS2's and only drove on them for a few a days and what a difference. I have 285 30 20's. Before these I had falken ST115 275 35 20's.
There was a test done on these, wish I could remember the article, and they were rated the best street tires out(PS2). If you have the right offset you could fit 295 with out rolling the fenders. Plus you will get traction in the rain and they will last you a little longer than DR's.

Maybe try some 3.3 gears? More low end traction and more top end speed.

You have a good point, for street racing from a stand still on street tires, or a slower roll, or for canyone carving; 500whp+ is more than enough. However a lot of us swap for drag radials or slicks, and go drag racing at the track. The power is usable under those conditions.

And dont forget the 80-150mph blast on the freeway against unknown victims. 600whp+ is very usable.

And as everyone suggested you should try tucking at 305/315 tire in the rear, for maximum traction.

So you all think drag radials are the way to go? I like to turn and if I get caught in the rain god forbid I don't wanna be s.o.l. What about kdws or would the pirellis be better? I want at least 10k tread life. Thanks again. Also I think its kinetix who makes the traction bars or rods anyone got them? Are they worth it?
