who got the latest issue of SPEED with the 510hp G35?
I have that issue and I'm surprised the G didn't do better. I'm also sad to see the magazine go. Although kinda thin it was one of the better U.S. publications. I hope the online version will be just as good.
I have the mag and it was a pretty bizaare comparo.
As mentioned this G was tuned for drifting and bling. Most of the $130k was not spent towards useable performance. For much less $$ (<55k), better rubber selection and a properly tuned suspension , the G would have faired much much more admirably. But all in all the ZO6 and Noble are both properly tuned 2 seaters vs a Sport Coupe. So very much and "out-of class" comparo IMO. A G can definately be tuned to give the ZO6 a much better run for the money. This example surely wasn't it.

yeah i thought so too, in that comparison it's kinda embarasing
they should have had a standalone article for the G or get a more hardcore G or Z to compete (costing way less too)

Don't forget that Speed also did the turbo G/Z shootout and those cars had pretty bad performance as well, despite 400+ rwhp and was beaten at the track by a Z that only had suspension mods. I think it's great that Speed was trying to compare OEM sports cars vs modded cars, but they should really find modded cars that were built for the track if that was their intention. Since the G was setup for drifting, maybe they should have had a drift contest :P

that NA Z had a lot more done to it than a mere suspension and I think with slicks - which it had, it's 100% plausible that it'd outperform the FI Z's on a lot of tracks - particularly ones that don't have huge long straights. The Axis Z in that shootout seemed pretty built for the track to me IMO. It was hard to fault really.
I still actually think the numbers they got were the numbers they got

I thought it was a weird comparison also... seems like SPEED is running out of things to compare, LOL! It does make us look bad though, especially when the general public doesn't realize that guy modded his car a few years back with custom one-off/machined parts. That's where some of the cost came from, anyway, bizarre! Who the hell runs that kind of power thru 275s in a competition as that? Definitely a drifter…
It's not really a TT, ST, or SC debate either. It's about creating power that you can successfully put to the ground. For most of us, its in everyday situations, whether its from the light, on the highway or on curvy roads. It seems there's a magical hp/tq number for every given situation and level at which you want to destroy your competition. My goal is to find those MODS , best suited for three scenarios above, on the street.
I guess half the fun comes from playing DESIGNER/ENGINEER with our cars. And learning from one another on what works and what doesn't.
I guess in the end I want a car capable of performing well in all three scenarios, not just one. What's the point of that? IMO, it's a waste of money. I want to pull or hang with the guy from the light, on the highway, and in the twisties. Not give it gas and loose traction on the street because I'm putting down more HP/TQ than the car was really designed for (by a few thousand engineers).

I have been trying to work on it though.
I remember perusing the article and thought it was a stupid comparison. Also, I don't remember if that 510hp was at the crank or the wheels? And what the heck did they buy for $130k?
