If you are talking a TT setup I wouldn't run any cats in fear of them melting/collapsing. Random Tech cats had a bad rep for collapsing under N/A conditions. Not worth the risk IMO.

I have gutted RT High Flows, if they collapse...first of all it will take a long time. Second of all, once they collapse just gut them and you have resonated test pipes that pass visual inspection for cats! They flow great for me...combined with plenum spacer/intake, the combo lowered my ET almost .2 (I haven't actually been out on as good a tire as I did before so my times may even improve more!)

i have them with the greddy kit. No issues after 9K miles although I've been thinking of getting test pipes (or the DP's that Sharif was talking about that will go from the compressor flange to the exhaust).

I also bought a set through Stillen. They rattled the same day I put them on the car. I contacted Stillen and they told me to contact Rtech directly! Way to stand by your supplier Stillen!!!

Anyway, after some persuasion, Rtech finally agreed to replace them. What is the use though. It will only be a matter of time before they collapse.

My advice - stay far away from Rtech. There is a better way to spend $700. Stillen's name has been tarnished in my opinion!

Bad customer service as well, they are located in Loganville and I physically took my collapsed cats up there and I damn near had to twist their arm to get them replaced.. they argued that their products were perfectly fine and something was wrong with my car.

Mine collapsed twice and I ended up gutting them.. very expensive test pipes.

The collapsing problems were only occurring with their metallic versions which flow great when they are not collapsed. Random claims the collapse is caused by cars which are not tuned properly and allow un-combusted fuel to pass into them, which ignites in the cat causing the collapse.

They have had a ceramic version for a while now which does not have the issues of the metallic’s. I have had these on my Z for about a year and they have been great.

Go with the ceramic’s and they will be fine. They fit perfect and Random does warranty their products.

Is there a visual way to tell if the RT cat is metal or ceramic?

I have never compared them side by side but they do look different on the inside. You have to look at the honey comb material, the metalic is a grayish color where the ceramics kind of a light brown. But that is new, put some miles and some carbon on them and you may have to tell just by the thickness of the material, the metalics I believe are thinner more dense. I have not looked at a new set of these in a while so I could be off but that should give you an idea. It's two totally different materials inside the things so I think most mechanics should be able to tell what it is just by feeling it.
