Default Resonated Test Pipes - 'Do They Smoke?'

I want to add resonated test pipes to my car so it can breathe better but I had 3 questions:

1. Will my car smoke like with regular test pipes?
2. Will I need to re-tune because of this?
3. Will the car sound ricey (like a Honda)?

Does anyone have any direct experience with simply adding Resonated Test Pipes to a TT set-up?

Thanks!!!

You don't need resonated test pipes on a TT setup. Save your money and get just plain straight through tests as the turbos will muffle the exhaust note plenty and you will get NO rasp.

You will 100% want to get a retune. Replacing the cats with a set of test pipes will relieve a lot of backpressure and will most likely result in higher boost levels.

Your car should not smoke with test pipes. If it does you have an issue that needs to be resolved.

1. your car might have some black smoke, when warming up, just running rich.
2. yes, retune helps alot
3. test pipes and a full exhaust sounds loud, not like a honda, but it is very loud, then when you cut the dump tube's better get some ear plugs

Yea, thats what I thought... WRONG

Testpipes and turbos make rasp... lots of rasp.. it's funny how people say stuff on here w/out first hand knowledge.. Sure, your restrictive exhaust may be quiet, but w/ a 3" exhaust and test pipes, be prepared for the loudest tin can you've ever heard... How do I know, I live through it every day.

hardly anybody needs a dual 3" exhaust. That is a TON of exhaust. you can run a 2.5" setup with test pipes and get NO rasp. I am speaking from first hand knowledge.

you compare it to other turbo'd cars and dual 3" is overkill for 95% or more of FI Z owners.

As far as nonresonated pipes being better... not true the Labree resonated pipes so 1/2hp gain(na) over the nonresonated according the them. Not that makes a difference but less rasp.

Never said I have a dual 3" exhaust.. It's a single 3" coming from a 2.5" y-pipe.

Even if it were dual 3" theres no such thing as "overkill" when it comes to a turbo's exhaust system. Quit reading crap on the internet.

Yeah the reason I asked is because we put Test Pipes on one of the 350's and it was Raspy as hell. That was with stock exhaust too so I figured it would be even worse with straight through (be it 2.5" or 3"). Some said resonated pipes are more of a deeper rumbling sound and cut out the rasp. I've never heard them?

I talked to a friend last night and he gave me some advice on how to get allot more power at the Track without spending all the time and money on a new exhaust set-up. I think I'll give that a shot first seeing as how it's a "Free" 50HP without turning up the boost.

if that involves an open exhaust or cut-outs, you best get a tune for it or your motor will pop so fast it will make your head spin

No. It's simply temporarily removing all timing retard from the 'Split Second' box, disconnecting the Det sensor and running C16 fuel (120 Octane).

there is no such thing as unleaded legal 120 Octane fuel....the highest you can go is the vp racing 103
also if you do that you will have to spend a lot of money. as opposed to 1 time pipes and retune

It's leaded. We use it every time we race. $6-$8 per gallon out of the pump at the track.

I would rather keep Jim's program in my box as opposed to having it changed. I have plenty of power for the streets. I just need it for the track. Can't have Vipers passing me

1 time pipes i want are $1,800 + $700 for high flow cats + $1,000 for Dyno & Tune.

Yeap. It's been working GREAT with our twin turbo cars for years now. Highly recomended (for track use only).
