UTEC questions

I have a question about the UTEC. The tuner that comes with it is that really needed. I was planning on skipping over this part. It is just used to tune right? I plan on using a diffrent device for my A/F. I guess that Im just making sure that if i dont get this to work with the UTEC specifically ( will I be missing out on any functions) I wont be kicking myslef later for it....
any input would be great!

The tuner is not needed but comes in useful if you want to datalog or do road tunning.We are currently running a package on the UTEC system and have a large quanity available for immidiate shipment..

The tuner unit is really only useful if you are going to do some tuning yourself on the road by allowing you to log the a/f. The PRO allows knock sensor and I think you can also log injector PW and other things too. Might be helpful to your tuner but most of the people I talked to didnt seem to care.

Yes there really is no point if you are having a tuner tune your car... dyno's read A/D and log it too... its really made for road tuning for people who dont have dyno's and want to tune. Just get a boost solonoid and the map switch and sensor with the unit and your set.
speaking of map switch, you were gonna post pics of where they installed yours.
Any of you vendors heard from TurboXS about getting a map selector switch that fits in our cars (next to the VDC button)? They said it was coming...

If you used a diffrent device like the plx r 500 could you use that log with the UTEC?
My understanding: If you don't have the tuner unit then Mr. Tuner will use their own wideband and a logmapping tool to tune your car. The UTEC doesnt actually use the log. However if you have the tuner unit installed you can get it to track the A/F with the other values it logs which can be a great aid to tuning. You can probably see how much it will help if you read this from the UTEC manual (speed density mode):
In UTEC Data Logger 1 you have access to multiple bits of information that will allow you to tune your car properly such as; RPM, MAP PSI, MAF (v), TPS, Load Site, Knock Count, Injector #1 mS, Ignition #1 Degree, Ignition #1 duty, Mod Ignition Degree, Mod Fuel%, Mod Maf V. When you use one of our Tuner Wide Band Air Fuel Ratio meters you will also get AFR in Data Logger 1. This data gives you the information you need to properly tune your vehicle.
You can see how having the a/f right there in a column with the RPM, ignition and injector values would be helpful. But of course any shop will log the a/f and rpm and can match it to the UTEC log so....
So yeah if I could get the UTEC to log my a/f from my AEM that would be really cool and save me the cost of the Tuner unit. But I doubt TurboXS will give us that answer even if it does work. Maybe the Suby guys know. ???

Yes that is exactly what i was trying to say dave thanks. I guess someone will have to find out the anwser and post it up. So if anyone out there know is an non txs A/F could be used along with the UTEC like the tuner unit would be able to

But 35ounses was correct, the addition of the TX Tuner helps speed up the tuning process by letting the UTEC interface with it and datalogging the A/F ratio in the last column.This makes tuning more accurate to see that at 4530rpms when your in the 50% load site column and making 8.7psi of boost, with 22.5 degrees of timing your A/F ratio is at 11.45...Here is an example of how it looks.. this is an actual datalog on the road.

Hey guys, can somebody start a sticky thread with UTEC maps and etc info for everyone?? I'm sure there's a couple tuned UTEC's on here. But you know, like on the WRX forums. Maybe it can help people looking for EMS's and what not.

yes except it has a wideband sensor connected to it (and power etc) so its not like your going to be popping it in and out ...I presume anyway.
