My Stillen Stage 4 Supercharger Mods Review :)

its not really about the max horsepower with this kit,you need to look at the torque #,s (under the curve)torque hits so low and remains constant all the way through mid range thats where that kit is so good,no matter how many high horsepower people out there who like to flame everything it is a damn good kit which you dont constantly have to worry about.nuf said.

I'm sure it is. Stillen is located in SoCal so I am sure that they factor in 91 octane, plus their tunes tend to run rich and with the new pump and injectors I really doubt it will be a problem... the turbo guys are running about 8lbs stock on 91 oct here in cali too.

Losing power with stage 4, seems to be install or tuning issues. I've noticed a big difference with how my car feels overall. Much more liniar powerband now.
I agree, this kit is not for the power hungry, if you are looking for 400whp +, then a twin turbo might be the best bet for you. Don't forget, Stillen prides themselves in reliability. It's an excellent kit for what most people want. Truly one of the only SC kits out there where you can just bolt it on, turn keay and drive it, and never look back or really worry....
And yes, stage 4 is fine with 91 Octane CA gas. Stillen tunes their kits specific for that, and their stage 4 is actually a bit richly tuned, which is safe. They actually have a re-tune of their split second box, which is less rich, but still safe, so that should be more power. I'm also looking into water/methanol injection, intercooler sprayer etc... for more cooling efficiency.
I'll keep playing with it, and let you all know how it all turns out.

So, I went back to my stock cats (from high flows) and I'm hitting about the same boost so I'm leaving them on, it's so much more civilized
I talked to Sam over at Stillen because I was concerned that I was only hitting 8psi as opposed to the 9 that Tony said I was going to be seeing. Sam said that stage 4 should be 8psi and that anything over 8.5 is going out of the efficiency range of the M62. So, I'm gonna just be happy with the super linear power and reliability (apart from those damn belts) of this kit, I'll be dynoing on Saturday and will post the results ... I'm figuring I'll be seeing about 340rwhp which on the whole is nothing to sneeze at.

That being said. Living up in Denver(6000') kills the effectiveness of the Stillen. The stage 4 kit puts out 309rwhp corrected for Sea Level, this is partly due to the fact that the SC stage 4 can only put out 6.5 psi since the air is less dense up hear. The really bad news is that the actual output uncorrected for elevation was just over 250rwhp!
If I could get an actual 320 - 340 at the wheels with the stillen I would do it, but $8,000 just to get 10hp more than stock z's at sea level is not gonna happen. So I will have to go TT and spend the extra money and take on the additional risk to see some meaningful gaines.

Seemed like every other modded Z had plots showing spikes and valleys.

I read from another thread...it should be from 8.5 to 9.5psi for stage4

The m 62 has been run at 10 lb's on the factory dyno charts from eaton and makes 362 hp under perfect conditions. its my next project and with the ported blower it should be close to that.

i have stage 4 and i can tell you for sure that that the car is much more powerful than when i had stage 3. AS far as HP it is much way much more powerful than stock . I had a try out with my friends stock 350z, we started on a roll around 40mph and by the time i was shifting to 5th gear he was more than 300 feet behind !!! big difference. Carrera s (the new one 360 hp) would not stand a chance. the modded evo 8 could not keep up with me either, the new 2.5l STi was also a joke ....so i don't know about you guys saying that you are not getting any power from stage 4...

Again at seal level, I think the kit would be great, 340 at the wheels and a very smooth power curve.

I don't think it is so much that the stage 4 kit is not making power, it is, I think the main point is that with the Stillen kit there is definately an upper ceiling on the amount of power that can be produced. Now you really have to sit down and ask yourself, is the possible 340ish rwhp enough, and thinking about it, it's not even the hp number, this kit has an absolute bag-load of torque which makes this kit really streetable.
So, think about what your ultimate goals are when going FI, because I guarantee that 600rwhp sounds cool, but is it practical? Umm, no, unless it is bone dry and you're in a straight line and on a highway ... On the other hand, around town (and on the highway at reasonable speeds) the Stillen stage 4 kit is a blast, and, it feels much safer than stage 3.
