we have those stupid cameras here as well they just snap the pictures from the front and back side I believe.

I've only been busted with the toll road cameras. I have a transponder, but sometimes I forget it and get a caught in the act. A few weeks later I get a violation notice with a nice picture of my license plate.

Actually dying of lung cancer sucks even more.

I've lived in California on and off since 1962 and the air is much better now that it was back then. There are more than 14 million cars in the LA/OC/Riverside area which is more than several states put together. If you haven't traveled and lived around the country it's hard to get a grip on how many people 14 million people living in an area like this is.

There are more custom and speed shops in the Los Angeles area that probably 48 of the other 49 states combined. When I was a kid in Illinois the car guys would fly out to California to have designs built in the shops here and brought back to Chicago. People would come here to buy 35 year old cars without a speck of rust on them and have them flat bedded back to Chicago where the rust would set in within days ...

I had a nightmare last night that I drove my Z somewhere and it rained.

I woke from that nightmare at 4:00 AM and was glad that it was just all a bad dream.

Rust sucks.

When I get tired of waiting for a turbo kit to get CARB approved I'll simply buy one and find a shop that's willing to earn a few extra bucks in FIVE MORE YEARS when I have to get smogged.

Engines generally burn cleaner and more efficiently than they did 50 years ago. Even with no emissions laws, the air would be drastically cleaner nowdays.

Lung cancer? Take your APS TT to a test only station and see what happens, It will pass. I dont mind smog laws if they would leave it at a test. BUT even if your car will pass the test it wont pass the visual part. To me this is just another way for cali to make more money. The shiet is out of control!

If a cop told me to raise my hood, I would tell him to get a warrant. Then I would call my lawyer. You must be joking me if you think I am going to respect a cop who is harrasing me because my car "sounds" like it has modifications.

Good point. Are you *required* by law to open the hood?

if a cop wants you to open the hood...you open the hood. you can play the 'do you have a warrant' game but here is how it's going to play out:

the officer calls in for a warrant. it takes two hours to get one. in the mean time he can make you sit out there while the warrant comes while drivers pass by thinking why 'this ricer got pulled over'.now since you are giving him a hard time to look under the hood you are automatically 'under suspicion'. you'll just **** yourself off...**** the cop off...and what was once a random 'pull-over' has now made you a target...you gave him a hard time..he's going to give YOU a hard time. best to cooperate and be truthful. my $.02

Yes they have bent the laws around this. They now send people to a school so they can learn what to look and listen for. If you tell a cop to fug off and tell him to get a warrent he will in the end make your life hell. Word to the wise never fug with cops. I have a few that are friends and if you heard some of the stories you would ****.

Exactly its a friggin business.

If they really cared would they make some of these vehicles that pollute so much. They don't care what comes out of the pipe, they care what comes out of your pocket.

Big automakers make deals with politicians or whoever. Can I make this vehicle it gets X amount of mileage and weighs X amount.
Politician: errr, uhh lets pass a law that states if your vehicle is X amount of weight then you can pollute X amount and get only this much for fuel consumption. Then it will be legal.
Automaker: Thx sucker....

Its all about money.

FYI a cop does "NOT" need a warrant to search your vehicle. He just needs probable cause that you have "contraband" drugs weapon or modifications in this case. In or on your car. If you don't comply they can simply tow your car.

If your stopped for something else they have to have your consent to search your vehicle. If you are stopped for speeding or something they can't search your car for no reason unless you consent.

I blew by a local officer doing 110 on a 65 freeway, he pulled me over and said he could throw my butt in jail for reckless driving. I did the im sorry and wont do it again act. After 5 minutes of staring at each other on the side of the freeway, he let me go.

me: ya, i just hope i'll have the sticker by then.
him: when you passed me, i heard your engine and knew you had something else under the hood. have a good day.
me: thank you very much, sir.
Moral of the story: have all your documents, be honest, be respectful, and you might get a pass.
The part that bothers me is how we get nailed for mods (noise) and motorcycles dont. I live 3 blocks from a harley-davidson dealer and when they drive within 2 blocks of my house, I can hear them with all my house the doors shut. Why can a stock harley-davidson put out twice the noise level of a car and not get a ticket?

Plus I've NEVER seen a Corvette with a front plate nor have I ever seen/heard of any of them get pulled over for it.

This is why I have a front plate, fans and part of the bumper in front of my intercooler, and my amuse exhaust is dirty as hell.
