Cop looked at my hks sc today...
As i turned onto a residential street, i passed a cop and then parked to make a call. Heard a tap on the window, and it was the cop i had passed. He asked for my lic, reg, ins, which i gave him without delay. His first question: what mods do you have?
me: exhaust and sc.
him: can i look under the hood?
me: sure.
he did, but couldn't close my cf hood.
him: i don't want to break your hood, so why don't you close it.
me: do you want me to do that now?
him: yes.
i closed it.
him: do you have a carb sticker for the sc?
me: not yet, its carb pending.
him: what do you do with this sc?
me: i'm just a car guy. i love to mod my car.
him: have you tried to smog it with the sc?
me: no
him: when you do, you will have problems.
me: ya, i just hope i'll have the sticker by then.
him: when you passed me, i heard your engine and knew you had something else under the hood. have a good day.
me: thank you very much, sir.
Moral of the story: have all your documents, be honest, be respectful, and you might get a pass.

HA, I actually got pulled over by a state trooper. Originally I thought it was for speeding, but he stopped me for not having a front plate. Turns out he just wanted to look at my car and find out what mods I had done. He was a car buff too!

i think you will see a compromise of the bill, intended to reduce noise, as it has gotten out of hand, at one time it was just the occasional Harley or Straight-pipe muscle car that would annoy the neigbors or the guy you were in traffic next too, but with all these kids putting tin cans on in place of a real muffler, most people over 40 (I.E. elected officials) would like to see them gone.
Yeah, the "Smog Check" was a rude awakining for me. REcent story:
My Z is registered in MS, where the annual inspection consists of a mechanic ensuring that your headlights, tail lights, blinkers and horn work. I moved to CA last year, and now it's time to renew the plates. So i go to DMV.ORG, and discover that MS, along with the Congo, is one of the last enclaves of human civilization that has yet to discover the miracle of the internet. Can't renew plates online.
So i think, screw it, i'll get CA plates. I go to get a "smog check". Now i figure "smog check" implies that the intent is to ensure that you're not dumping unacceptable levels of polution into the environment. WRONG! "smog check" means that even though I passed the emissions part of the test, i got failed for having a "modified air induction system" (i.e. Injen RD1985 CAI). Now you CA folks know that the injen CAI is now CARB Exempt. However when i bought and installed it in MS, it was still CARB pending, hence no data plate. Even though they can go to the manufacturer's website, which states that the intake has a CARB EO#, "there has to be a number physically attached to the part". So i contacted injen, who sent me a little stick-on plate with the CARB EO#. But by this time i was so frustrated and p!ssed off that in the meantime I called the Forrest county, MS Tax collector's office and talked to a nice old lady there who told me to mail a check for X amount, along with a note stating my title # and current address, and MS would renew my plates. Short version: SCREW YOU, CA DMV!!!!

CARB is nothing more than another ploy by state governments to gain another source of income. Ticketing people for these stupid bs laws is a huge money maker for the state every year. It has nothing to do with how much your car ACTUALLY pollutes. (by the way, auto emissions are a VERY small percentage of airborne pollutants, and global warming a bunch of hippie bs)
