In my opinion I love the sound of an open wastegate. I know there is a few people on hear with them and have some fabricated. I would love to hear them if anyones got them on video. I did see the one in the rain. Also why do all the turbo kits have the waste gate closed and not open atmosphere?

 

ya mine was the one in the rain. 002-m-p just got his today as should a few other members. my car is ripped apart again till the weekend, even though it is nice here now.
they can be pretty noisy, mine didn't even get a chance to open much at all in that vid cause it just spun the tires to fast. even having the boost controller all the way down, i am still running the bigger wastegate springs, and can't boost under 11-12psi. i'm sure the turbo kit makers are just trying to please everyone with venting them back into the exhaust and not atmosheric.

002-m-p was planning to do a vid when his are installed. i was doing a little racing this weekend in the dry and was able to open them all the way, truely wicked. thats the cool part, normal driving doesn't get affected, only when you pass your set boost does it get loud. because they vent outside, you are now raising the breathing capacity of your exhaust at full throttle due to the fact not all of it is going through the exhaust system anymore.

 

I love open wastegates, i just think it's an amazing sound!!!!

 

Yep, just give me till saturday or sunday to post the vid up. It should be decent quality as well, cause I use a MiniDV camera and have my website to host it from.

 

How does it sound like?

 

I have them on my single turbo kit (one on each header to the y-pipe) and they basically sound like a harrier jet. that this the best way i can explain them. WOW!!!!

Just got my kit from scott it is gonna be a bit before I get them on the car extra engine is at the machine shop. All my parts are out being coated, powdercoating engine peices and etc.... I am excited to see some more videos

Basiclyy u hear the whistle of the turbo then hear an explosion of high whistle and wwhhhaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!! is sooo bad ***, especially when u go under an over pass or go in a tunnel and floor it.

 

You may here a loud woosh sound from the turbos, if you listen, but probably not a wistle out of the greddy turbo'd Z's.

You guys are gonna owe me for getting this video up by this weekend. Its like 35 degrees here and I gotta do the install outside in the parking lot of my apartment on jackstands and a desk lap for light once it starts to get dark. My neighbors look at me like I'm crazy. Normally I would go to my parents house and use the garage, but i'm too excited to drive 2.5 hours home and have to wait til saturday to get started.

Filmed the in-car before footage today, and outside car tommorow. then begins w/g dump tube installed to be completed friday

 

The vid with ludacris was cool.

I am picking my car up from SGP on 02/17. I got their 3" down pipes and dump tubes for the Greddy TT kit going into my 3" test pipes and 3" exhaust. I will post a vid as soon as I get back home on 2/18.

I hate the sound of open wastegates. Loud, raspy, and annoying.

 

I'd love to see more vids and comparisons of how open vs closed wastegate sounds.
