Default Quick question about preping motor for FI (TURBO)

i'm receiving my car within a month or two, i plan on going turbo and purchasing all the things i need from advance so that next winter i can have it all installed. I'm planning on going with the turbonetics kit, now i know i can "safely" run 8 psi but i don't want to risk it, i have a mechanic that does very cheap labor but is a great genius when it comes to motors, he did the FI on my cousin's z06, so i was planning on buying a set of forged pistons and have him install them before installing the turbo. Will that be enough to keep my motor safe at 11psi? or should i also purchase some forged conrods?

So assuming i only have forged pistons : > what psi can i go to, and will the car be reliable?

Assuming i don't want more than 450whp, will forged pistons suffice, or would i need to go forged conrods also? and if i do both, is there anything else i should get done while i'm at it?

And what about a programmable ecu?

Turbonetics Kit
Forged Pistons
Forged Conrods
??????????????
Exhaust
Thanks guys, and this will be a 06' model

If you are going to switch something switch the rods. Those are the weak point of this motor. YOu can get the Eagle rods for around $550 from www.forgedinternals.com I would do that with some Arias pistons. Those should be good for more power then you even want. As for tuning the kit for the 06 6MT kit will not be using a reflash. It will come with a tuneable EMS.

thanks a lot, i just spoke to my friend, and labor will be free to install this stuff, he's done a turbo kit on a civic and rebuild the whole motor by himself including forged internals and the car has over 100 000 miles and still running strong, so basically i can invest a good let's say 1000-1500 buying forged internals and get them installed for free and i would have a "built block" and this could handle let's say 15 psi? if so i'll be very happy man.

No one has really tested the Eagle rods past 500 WHP that I am aware of but on other cars they hold plenty of power. With just pistons rods and ARP hardware you should be good for mid 500s

dude you're a champ, thanks a lot for the links. Did you build your motor or no? how is the install on the turbo kit? simple or very difficult? and how long did it take to install, and how much did it costs, just wondering. Thanks a lot man, i owe you one!

Initially I will run 9-10 PSI on this turbo. Shortly after that I will switch to the Stage II kit and run 15 PSI with the goal of 550 RWHP

Much bigger injectors, bigger turbo, tune for it, fuel return system, EMS, etc..

Well technically Stage II is not available yet. Turbonetics hasn't finished R&D for it...The turbo with that kit is good for 500s HP at higher boost...

If you are going to fully build the motor yes I would. Save the cash you would have spent on the new car and do a full motor build with cams etc, new triple disc carbon clutch, ATS carbon diff and Turbonetics kit Stage II. Add some axels to the picture and you should be good for 700s with that tubo..

stop, i'm getting all gigly inside lol, the reason i wanted an 06 was the new wheels on the grand touring, and the new headlights and tails, can those be bought aftermarket? if so, then the search is on.

Absolutely..matter of fact with that much horsepower you will be looking to get larger wheels for more rubber an traction anways so count those off the list. The new headlights and tailights bolt in and can be purchased from Mossy Performance or Performance Nissan.

If you are going to build the motor who cares what the mileage is. So far the tranny hasn't shown to be an issue with even 600 RWHP. With the money you save if you buy a clutch mileage is a non-issue.
