I have been b!tching for some time about not being able to remove my Vortech filter. I have Dremeled the front radiator support as several have done to no avail. I just can't get my filter out of the car to clean it and it has been close to 10k miles since I had the Vortech installed. I am thinking I really need to clean it soon as it is nasty as he!l. I have thought of 2 different ideas on relocating the filter which would give easy access to the filter (maybe).
1) I have thought about routing a custom pipe (3" OD maybe) from the blower housing inlet to my front bumper and then possibly install a JWT Popcharger on the end of the pipe. I am thinking that the filter should be located in an optimal location. I do have the Veilside V3 body kit on my car so I have a HUGE opening in my front bumper where the FMIC is located. My thought is to route the pipe so that it places the filter directly in the center of my front bumper(see photo below). My concerns with this would be the number of bends required to make this happen. I think it would require at least 3 bends, 1 after it goes thru the stock air inlet opening in the radiator support, 1 to clear my FMIC and one to place it exactly where I want it in the front bumper opening. Another concern with this is the additional 2-3 feet of piping. Would this additional piping and location of the filter be bad for the blower; i.e. make it work harder for air, etc? Would doing something like this require a retune because of the CAI effect?

2) My 2nd thought is to just run about a 6-8" piece of pipe or silicon rubber tube straight out of the blower and terminate it once it goes thru the stock air inlet opening. As soon as it goes thru this opening, the filter could be mounted in this location. I do not know if there is enough room to relocate the filter to this location, but it sounds easy to do. I wouldnt think it would require a retune or anything else as it will still be sucking warm air, just not quite as warm.
Any input on this is greatly appreciated. If anyone has attempted anything like this, please post photos and describe what you have done and how you like it! I am sure there are many other guys running the Vortech SC that would like something like this. I am about ready to go to a custom pipe bender to get something done about this problem!
Thanks,
Zach

when I get my vortech kit on, I'm going to consider doing a CAI with it like the TN and ATI kit just cause I know that after the car starts getting hot, it isn't going to be good to be sucking in hot engine bay air.

Zach...sent you a PM. If you still have the 5.0"+ original Vortech SC Filter for the 350Z in your car just take something to it that will allow you to destroy it. I used wire snips. Then replace it with the 3.7" G35 Filter from Vortech. Or, go with the K&N RU-4410. My concern and "booger"s concern with the K&N Filter was air flow needs of the blower.
I am sure you 2nd solution would work great. Perhaps you could find a 3.5" rubber hose that would extend through the OEM air intake, followed by a 3.5" metal sleeve on the end of the hose for attaching a K&N filter or even better a filter from
S&B Filters.

Ron, my kit already has the G35 filter on wit and I still am unable to get it out. I don't know why mine is so different than others out there. I have thought about the RU-4410 filter, but I am also slightly concerned about the flow of it in comparison to the stock Vortech filter.
Trending Topics
I use brake duct hose [4in.] The one with wire in it so it doesnt collapse in on it self . I run it down in front of the fender well . Im able to use a much larger filter . And when your clening it , your right there to blow out the oil squirter nozzle
There was a pic of one where someone had a silicon tube attached to the blower and then a pipe bending 90 deg so that the K&N filter was just above the intercooler. I also saw where someone was going to start selling something like this. I can't find them anymore. Anyone have an update?
Don't know which K&N Filter you are looking for, but if you are looking for something that makes changing the filter EASIER, it is: RU-4410 Some have questioned the air flow of the RU-4410 compared to Vortech's filter for the 350Z or G35. I have previously posted pics showing the difference. Unfortunately, while K&N makes the filter for Vortech, it is made exclusively for Vortech and not available on the K&N site for purchase.

why isn't the stock vortech filter more like the JWT popcharger with having the pointy end be a filter too? the air just rushes up then gets deflected sideways
i'm hoping i might be able to rig up my injen CAI up to the vortech if I can't find a cheap alternative - would like to sell the CAI to recoup some money

Summit Racing has the RU-4410 for $24.69. I don't think there will much of a flow change. I have the G35 filter and it touches my Koyo radiator so I need something smaller like the RU-4410. Otherwise the filter is heated up by the radiator.
