Default A little bump in the road. Need advice.

Ok I got the blown motor out of the Z and apart. I bought a long block from the junkyard that was involved in a front end wreck. The timing cover has a chunk out of it on the driverside of the motor. Not a big deal I have a extra timing cover. So tonight a buddy and I started tearing down the new motor to get the new timing cover off. Got the upper/lower pan off along with the timing cover and valve covers. Everything was gong good when we noticed that the cam gear of the driverside was broke off. It just snapped clean off! At this point the motor is on the stand and naked!(Ill get pic tomorrow) Its really torn down. I have the cam and cam gear from the other motor so Im really not worried about that part. But this timing chain looks like some work. Does anyone have tips on the cam install? Also how far am I really from building this thing? I really dont want aftermarket cams cause I want my idle to be decent and Im only shooting for 400hp witn this car.
Also where is the best place to order a new gasket set and a manual for the Z?

I have the jwt cams with a custom grind from Scott Performance and my idle is perfect.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

about the only place to get a complete gasket kit is through the dealer. you can typically find shop manuals on cd on ebay for really cheap. the timing chain is pretty easy, but you will need a shop manual to see how all the teeth line up. make sure to put the intake cam gears on correctly. they are indexed identical and look indentical, but they are different. the manual doesn't mention that either. call nissan for part #'s and match them up if you need to. if ya get it wrong, the car will run, but run like crap.

Couple pics. You can see the broken cam gear.
