Default crazy f/i thoughts

well was thinking about what next to do to my car. and the thought hit me as i glanced to the extra supercharger in my shop. hmmm, i can't help myself and there is a reason for my screen name. i already have most everything i need, just a few custom parts to make. not going for outrageous hp numbers as i could easily blow the doors off 1000+. just wanting to stand out from the crowd. can anyone say, tt blowing through a supercharger? it will be crazy to see, crazier to hear, and crap your pants to ride in, lol. guess my car will be down even more now till i get this done. i'm very curious on how the power delivery will be.

if you are talking about a roots style blower it wont work well because once you spin as fast as you can go with the charger it will be maxed out it infact a may be slower then your turbo alone. But im sure you have a better plain hope it works out.

One word CRAZY. But what the hell go for it. I saw this once in a BMW M3 in europe it was a track car the thing was insainly fast and it used a weird gear box it was like trip tronic the guy would only move it up or down.

I'm not sure about gasoline, but i know of a few large diesel engines that do this. I don't know how, but they use the supercharger for low end pickup, until the turbo kick in, then, at high rpm, they use the turbos for power, and the supercharger is actually used to "flush out" the exhaust in the cylinders. Apparently it works very well. Good luck, it will be insane!!!

I'm not sure how this would work. Just plumb the outlet of the s/c into the inlets of the turbos?

saw it on a STi...basically the supercharger helped it build boost until the turbo kicked in at which point the supercharger turned off... I think the gas mileage on it was 1/3 gpm

the plan is to use a roots style supercharger. it actually will be really easy to do, the hardest part will be to fabricate the mount for the blower and then i have a really cool idea for the blower inlet.
i was originally thinking of the stillen/ eaton unit, but i don't feel it will work properly at high rpm's. so i am using a blower that will flow alot more than the turbos. plan is to run the turbos to about 5-6psi, then the blower at only about 2-3. there will be so much volume coming out of the blower i will not need to run it hard at all. all my lag will be gone and the bottom end should be insane, not to mention the mid when both really start coming on!!!!! this should be some truely road warrior type stuff, hahaha.

i am going to start figuring it out in about a week or so. the supercharger i have is an old 6/71 jimmy that i planned to use on my camaro. but that project hasn't moved in about 8 years, lol. the 6/71 displaces 350c.i. each revolution, so the blower will out flow the turbos. havn't decided if i will go that monsterous though yet. i might look into one of the magnusson style with the rear inlet too. i am just needing to feed my recent craving for a roots style blower sticking through the hood, lol.

I would imagine that you get more power down low, but you will have to run HIGHER manifold pressure to get the same WHP. Imagine how much power a roots type blower will take to run when you feed it air already compressed to 6+psi!!!

I guess that is the trade off for the low-end power...

What PRACTICAL use is a system like this? Most turbo cars already make more power down low than they could possible put to the ground.
