Default Vortech, injectors, and the fuel system

I was thinking about upgrading the Vortech fuel system, but I don't want to spend all the cash on a full return style system. And, for the power that I want, I don't think I need it. (I'm not going for the "700 club") So I had an Idea.

The main problem with the vortech system is that it regulates the fuel pressure 10:1 to deliver enough fuel through the tiny stock injectors. This results in fuel pressure near 100psi. Not good. So what I was thinking is, instead of a full return system, why not replace the injectors with say, Deatschwerks 480 cc injectors, replace the 10:1 fuel regulator with the 4:1 fuel regulator that vortech sells, and adjust the AFR with the split second box?

You'll have lower fuel pressure (around 70 psi or so), going through a larger injector, at a lower duty cycle. Granted, It's not as flexible or as pure as a full return style, but this would work, right?

And, it would only cost about $400. $359 for injectors, and about $50 for the fuel regulator disk. All in all, this should be a much safer, more stable, less stressed system, for a bargain price.

I think it would work . I would have the ECU flashed for the size of injectors you wanted . And then figure out what size washer to put in the FMU . The FMU raises fuel preasure 8 to1 instead of 10 to 1 in the stock kit . You may even be able to get away with 2 to1 or even 1 to 1

I would say just go w/ 550cc injectors and get ridd of the FMU. This would help w/ fine tunning the AFR.

Give Sharif a PM , he would be able to tell you if you could get away with out the FMU or not . I would just think the front Cyl.s might run out of fuel in the upper rpm's and boost . Dont know

I think so too, but maybe not. If you ran 1:1 with the auxillary fuel pump still in the loop, it would probably be ok.
