Default Anyone using the J&S Safe guard with the EU?

I will be FI soon and was wondering if it was good idea to use the J&S along with the EU since the EU can't control timing? I already have the EU just want to see what you FI gurus think before I buy a safeguard. Thanks guys.

The eu can control timing, but you need to buy the ignition harness which is only $40. The EU can add and subtract timing. Also greddy is supposed to release an update that will let you set absolute timing like the UTEC by summer of this year.

who is tunning your car and how much boost are you going to run? I recommend you get the map pressure sensure harness and map tune for anthing over 8 psi. What kit are you using?

I'm going with the eternal St kit. I got it for a good price the kit put out 383/415 on stock engine with a 3in cat and stock exhaust. I know a guy that has been tuning for a while using the emanage on eclipses and evos so I might use him since he has knowledge. How can you switch maps with the EU do you have to always use your laptop? I also don't plan to boost any higher than 9psi. Do you have any vids of your car in action?

you can't really have different maps with the EU unless you have a lap top and then it would only take you seconds to switch the maps. If you get a boost controller you could have different settings. For example I have the greddy profec b II and boost off I have 5.5psi @380whp. low boost is 8psi @480whp and high boost is 10psi at 519whp. I am changing from the EU to the HKS-Vpro standalone in a week or so and I am going for 600whp on high boost.

this is the only vid I have right now.

Keep in mind the J&S will also serve as a knock retard not sure the EU can do that.

Thanks for the vid Gmann.

Westpak thanks for the info I've read in the manual that the EU can only log when knock occurs. I guess when it pings you have to go in with a laptop and add or reduce timing where the knock was logged.

I have a question for the tuners Shariff, Phunk or anybody what is a good tune?
1. Where should your A/F be at WOT?
2. same as above but at idle?

what other things should I look for in a good tune when I go FI since I'm new to this. Thanks for answering my questions guys.

With the EU the only additional items you will need is the Greddy Pressure sensor with harness, and the A/F ratio input Harnes. These will plug into Option 1 and Option 2 in the EU. Now all you have to do is set the Target A/F ratio map to what you want it to be and set up the timing. You will want to be at 11.4 or 11.6 AFR at WOT on a FI car. On 91 Octane. check out MOHDPARTS.COM they have alot of Emanage stuff and updates on firmware etc.

another thing you can do is have AAM flash your ECU for a turbo map. Don't touch the fuel tables you can adjust those with the EU. Just get the timing maps this way the timing will already be set up for a turbo application and you can fine tune with the EU.

The J&S is an alternative, but I've seen a lot of posts where people couldn't get it to work. I know Japtrix knows how to get it to work.

I have always viewed the J&S as a secondary timing control device... a safety net of sorts just in case you get a bad tank of gas or something.

Hey Denchan,

As someone already clarified, the EU can control timing (advance it or retard it).

For any FI application, the basic EU setup is the following:
EU Unit
Complete Harness
Pressure Sensor
Pressure Sensor Haress

It's not advisable to tune an FI car without running a MAP sensor. Yes, others have done it, but that doesnt mean its safe, or the correct way to tune it.

The ECU can store 4 maps, which can be switched either via dipswitch on the side of the EU, or via a remote switch; of course, you can store unlimited maps in your laptop, and load them as you desire as well.

Hope that helps.

The SafeGuard's Status LED or the optional bargraph monitor give you feedback, to help you tune. Otherwise, YOU are the knock sensor.
