Default quick question on boost gauge

This is a total newbie question, but here goes anyways.

I have the Vortech S/C setup with the boost and fuel pressue Defi gauges. I noticed on another, unrelated post that the individuals boost gauge was reading between -20 and -25 at an obvious idling position.

My boost gauge will read anywhere from -10 (normal acceleration) to -25 (normal coasting) and then will jump to 5 or 6 psi when i really give it some gas. It stays at the 5/6 mark for a second or so, then drops back down to the -20 range. Is this normal? When the vehicle is off, it reads 0 and does the jump/spin around thing when first cranked to show that it works.

You can tell you are getting boost though - as when i have removed the gilmer belt and gone n/a there is a huge difference in power. In addition, you can here the blowoff valve very well when driving.

I am planning on runnng up to CP Racing in Charlotte this weekend, but would like an idea of if i am in deep or not before i go.

whats the question ?

also, when you are WOT (wide open throttle) and it's hitting 5/6 lbs of boost, does it go back down to the -20 range when you are still WOT ? if so it isnt supposed to do that, you should have a constat up flow of boost. probably hitting max boost around 6000 rpm i would assume. thats when i hit full boost.

my question is....should the boost be reading -20 to -25 when coasting?

And, No the boost does not fall back below 0 until after i release the throttle. It doesn't take long for it to fall back down, but only after i left off the gas.

yes, this is normal. if you are not on the throttle at all then -20 or so is where you should be, basically you are creating a vaccum and it's pulling down the needle. more of a vaccum right when you let off the throttle i believe, mine will dip to around - 24 or so when not on the throttle.

thats what i was looking for backagain. Thanks a bunch.

Whatelse have you done to your 03 with the Vortech. I bought the car about a month 1/2 ago - didn't really know too much about the performance add ons - but was lookin for a nice z. Love it so far - hell of a lotta fun.

Have you swapped pulleys out?
How about the flywhee / clutch?
