Default fi engine build & tt install pre-face

Hi,

Demographics:
2003 G35 coupe automatic with 23k miles.
37yo male, married with 1 child I live in Greensboro,NC.
Pharmacist, income~ 110K/year
Car lover since I was 10 years old
1st car was a 1966 Conv Mustang. Bought as a project at 15yo. Still miss that car. All show & no go. Chicks digged it!

History:It's my dailey driver. I auto-cross once a month & will do maybe 2 High-Speed Driver Education Schools(HSDE) each year. Road courses are alot of fun!!! I've also picked up the drag racing bug & will do this 3-4 times too.

Project:I'll be building my engine & installing a Greddy Twin Turbo over the next month. I'll be making a couple of chapters (sans Eagle1), though probably not quite as eloquently as he did.

Currently I have an stock engine(23K miles) with an ATI procharger(now for sale if anyone is interested= probably $3,300). I've had a problem with the # 3 cylinder, probably blown rings. There could be several reasons; running for 1 week without a proper tune, letting my oil get really low(once), ATI or just bad luck, who knows.

PS: I've loved the ATI since day 1. No hard feelings at all, their customer service has been good to me also, even though I didn't buy it from them, but second hand instead. But since I'm building my engine I might as well go for more power too!

Well that's the past.

Now the present...

My car is my daily driver. I hope to put it together and see somewhere in the 450 hp/tq range. Nothing exotic or crazy, just good, reliable, safe power.

Upon researching & talking to many different people, several here on the boards, I've decided to go with a strong bottom end & a TT as mentioned earlier. I'll be taking pictures as the tear-down & install happen. I'll also be adding a borla exhaust, ATS lsd & some other small things. I'll be copying the format Eagle1 used on fresh alloy to document the process. My resources (read:money) are not unlimited, but I can swing this build as I have it currently set-up.

Engine worked preformed by 350zmember 350zDCalb (in NM)

My planned set-up:

block cleaned & redecked
bored & honed (0.02 over)
crank journal polished
all new head gaskets
heads cleaned, new valve stem seals
heads redecked
arias extreme pistons (9 to 1)
eagle rods
arp main & head studs
5 angle valve job
I will be keeping my motordyne spacer & thermal upgrades
standard greddy TT
550cc injectors & fuel return line (edit)
emange ultimate
I have a zeitronix display which I love & plan on keeping that too.
Tuning to be preformed by Sharif in Charlotte (1.5hrs away)

Secondary transmission cooler(in-line)
Upgraded valve body
I'll be using my 1/2 gutted(2ndary's are gone) catalytic converters with a borla 2.5in dual exhaust(remember not looking for 600hp) so the 2.5in will do

Quaife lsd, to replace my current peg-leg differential

I have the stop tech stage II brakes, which I'm happy with & keeping.

My rims are the stock 17in rims. I've widened my rear rimes to ~ 10.5 ins & have goodyear gsd3 all around.
275's front***315's rear(25mm spacer)

I have the KurumaZ new urethane bumper & will be making custom front air duct to blow some fresh air to the air filters or rotors depending on space.
The large greddy IC will look really cool with the new bumper. I also plan to keep by front bumper brace. Probably measure, cut & weld a new cross member.

What does the future hold? unknown. Power, fun, frustration?

I'm on the boards mulitple times everyday, so I'll keep ya'll posted.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

The fun begins next week sometime!!
-JIM

Jim,
Our machine shop can also perfrom a 5 angle valve job which will just further enhance the flowing characterisitcs of an already well designed head.

I will keep you posted as to the progress of your engine, I will start another threads soon with the entire build up process, from the machining to the balancing, to the head work, to the assembly, checking the clearances, etc.

Looking forward to seeing your dyno sheet after Sharif has that puppy tuned, you are definately in great hands, Sharif is a very meticulous tuner!

And funny to learn that you are a pharmacist, we have lots of people on this board that are in the health care profession, I started the motor building project as a side project...I work full, full, full time as a Gonstead Chiropractor.

Call me anytime with any questions or progress report feeback

440 injectors are not enough when you up the boost with the built block. upgrade at the same time so you don't have to spend extra money and tune twice.

correct, 440's max out in the low 400's (hp wise)...talk to sharif, he can get you larger injectors as well www.forgedinternals.com

With all your mods and the power your are going for you should really consider a better flowing exhaust.

ya maybe, but I got a killer deal on it so for now I'm going with the 2.5in.
I'm also keeping my stock cats & I figure why spend alot on a bigger exhaust when I have those things on there anyway.
thanks for the input!!

I suggest geting a freeer flowing exhaust too. Your limiting factor is the exhaust and cats. Atleast get test pipes.
