Default fried coils, help !

Was out driving last night after sitting parked with the ignition on engine not running. Car started fine drove fine. Did a couple of wot runs and everything seemed fine until I was at a stoplight and the ignition started missing. This had happened the other day (slight hesitation) while crusing at 40 MPH but seemd to go away as quickly as it started. So as I'm pulling away I am certain I'm missing cylinders, sounds and feels really bad. I lightly limped the car home which took about 10 min. Bad idea in hind sight I'm thinking. When I get home I pop the hood to find a cherry red glowing cat. on the passenger side (I am assuming was from the unburned fuel hitting the hot exhaust and igniting) and the #1,5 coils melted.
My questions are, did my j&s safeguard cause this? Does it have the same problem as the emanage? What else could cause a shorted coil?
What damage could I have caused by driving like this, ruined 02 sensor, cat., or maybe worse?
If anyone in the know could shed some light on this it would be greatly apreciated

Thanks, Jarrett

BTW I'm running a Procharger kit 7psi,J&S and LM1 wideband.

I think they are $110 each @ the dealership. You need to find out how many you need.

Already purchased two new coils from the dealership $77.00 Ea.

Found out that the J&S prolly did fry the coils. It was an older design (pre 2004) supposedly the newer ones don't do this.

When my coils started going out I noticed a litte hesitation at first followed by the engine missing cylinders. You will know when this happens. It sounds really bad.

The biggest fear now is that I might have caused other damage by limping the car home with two cylinders not firing. Cat. was more than cherry red by the time I shut the engine off.

Anyone have any thoughts on the kind of damage if any that could have occured by driving lightly with two non firing cylinders for about 10 min.

With a short drive home at part throttle, you are probably fine. Only way to find out for sure, is a compression test at the minimum, and a leakdown for certainty.

I'll second a compression test (DIY, go buy one for $25-30) and if the results aren't stellar then a leakdown test to help narrow things down. lets hope everything works out ok for you
