Default Unichip or UTEC??

I'm thinking of getting some type of management before getting a s/c kit. Thoughts, concerns?

Get the UTEC, it does everything the Unichip can't, such as scale injectors, provide absolute control over timing, different maps, set rev limit, user-tuneable, ect.

So would anyone recommend getting this before or after the Vortech? Is it even needed at all to run the s/c setup well? Or is it just for more of a fine tune?

tuning a car even when it's NA will still give you power. i know adam from www.z1auto.com did the UTEC on his NA z and added something like 10-15 wheel hp i believe. but if you are getting the vortech soon then just wait and do it after the vortech is installed

plus it's far greater than the ss box the vortech comes with, if you can just get the vortech tuner kit and then do a return fuel system, larger injectors and the utec, atleast thats what im doing soon. i'll have the SS BOX, aux fuel pump and vortech FMU for sale once it's done .

You might want to wait for the new Unichip before making a decision, the Q unichip is coming out and has a lot of the same features that the Utec has plus an option to add a module to use your pda with it for data logging plus theft deterrent and more.

Scaling injectors is when the piggyback makes adjustements to the fule based on the difference in injectors sizing which will help with things like idle and start up.

The Q Unichip will not absolutely set the timing, unless something has changed recently.

I would go UTEC hands down. The fact that only authorized UNICHIP tuners can une the UNICHIP is reason enough. UNICHIP requires proprietary/expensive software hardware for tuning...the UTEC requires nothing but a laptop.

Not sure if this is a consideration, but unichips are very cheap now... lots of people are moving from unichip to Utec and are unloading their old system... That said, if money is not a consideration, utec is clearly better.

Does someone have a link to a thread/site about the new unichip? this is the first I have heard of it. Thanks.

Apparently it can be purchased already but it has to be hardwired to the plug and play harness since it doesn't have the same plugs until they redo all of the harnesses.

I don't see anything on their site, I will check the brochures I have at the shop and see if they have any info.

Regardless of cost, the bigger issue, IMHO is lack of licensed tuners. Few shops are willing to invest $5000 for the license and hardware/cables, when only tuning a handful of APS/Unichip equipped cars. This is the reason I prefer the APS tuner kit, and then add your own engine management and fuel system.

It will be interesting to see how TN markets their Unichip equiped TN kits in the future. My hope is they will open the software up, without a large upfront cost to the tuner.

While Turbonetics hasn't announced the Unichip will be its new tuning tool They do have a Unichip Q installed on a shop car for testing. They also have a plug and play harness already made for it as well. And yes it does have the Flux Display module installed too which includes the datalogging of 6 channels up to 30 minutes via a bluetooth link to the Unichip from your PDA or laptop. But like I said they haven't "officially" announced that as their tuning tool for Stage 1.5 or Stage 2 yet It does do closed loop boost control, intercooler sprayer/water meth injection control, two map switch, etc. As for software I don't have that info at hand right now as its a bit undecided.
