Default A/C Not Working!!!

Mods, please do not move as guys with F/I may have encountered this problem before.

Since it was raining today, I had to turn on my A/C to unfog the windows. At it's coldest temp (60 degrees) it blows cold air but if I turn it up to 61 or any warmer, it blows hot air. I hadn't noticed it until now because there was obviously no need to turn the A/C on during the winter. When I push the A/C button, I hear it kick on but still hot air above 60.

Could it be a faulty thermostat? What else could be wrong?

BTW I have a Vortech.

Check the AC hose that runs by the MAF pipe. It might have rubbed a hole in it.

or the hose that passes by the a/c compressor on the bottom of the engine. The rubber hose (if shifted slightly) can rub up against the spinning pully & eat a small hole.

don't ask how I know.

Sounds like the temp sensor under the dash is not connected. It is on the underdash panel that goes below the steering column. If you are sitting in the driver's seat it will be close to your right knee. You have to unbolt the panel to get to it. Check that first. If this was disconnected then your AC would operate in the manner you describe.

Can the temp sensor just become disconnected without someone knocking it? I don't think I knocked it with my knee that hard but who knows.

Also, check the FLIMSY ribbon cable behind your three **** climate controls. If you get even the smallest kink in it, you can mess up your A/C

What most likely happened is that they never connected it back together when they dropped it down to run things like gauges to the driver's side A-pillar. Like you said, you wouldn't notice it until now because you haven't used your AC since you had it installed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to check all these things out. Just as an FYI..I have a G35 coupe, not a Z.

The alarm guy did place the alarm light in my A-pillar (I have the Zeitronix unit in my cuby) so maybe he forgot to connect it back together. I'll report back what I find.

I HAD EXACTLY the same problem last year.... THEKING was right... it was the air temp sensor... you gotta plug that back into the underpanel at the driver side... it is just right behind that little vent window... you can see that easily! I didn't notice my was unplugged after a few weeks later when I needed some cold air...

Good luck guys!

cheers,

richie

Just so I get things straight (my a/c has always been acting weird, but I had the stereo put in right after i got the car) - your car blows cold a/c air (not just cold outside air) only at max low setting, but as soon as you turn the **** up it blows warm? Same way that mine acts.

It's the temp sensor. That's the only reason the car would act this way.
