One thing I don't think people understand is that the 350 has only been out for three years, and it has made great progress thus far and it will continue to.

Another reason why a lot of people don't have 700+whp Z's is because it is still trial and error. Not all tuners have the knowledge of the VQ to make that 700+ last on the street. So, once a solid method is out I know there will be more 700+whp Z's.

I think the aftermarket parts list has grown 1000 times in the past year for the 350Z. What was once hard to obtain and took 6-8 weeks to make is now readily available on most peoples shelves, such as pistons,rods,studs..What we do need is an aftermarket company to make some bearings for the VQ, to date there are none out that will work other than OEM.And I cant stand doing a $10,000 rebuild to use OEM bearings. I do think you will see a few shops pump out some 600-800whp VQs with regularity in this new year, however 1000whp+ is still about 2 years off IMO as far as R&D goes.

+1, I cant wait to see some big single turbo setups so the power is actually semi-usable on the street. 1000+ hp... traction anyone.

I finally think there is a serious JDM competitor with the Supra for highway runs... It may be a few years till its out there but seeing and reading all thi progress is awesome.

Just curious, why do you think the Turbo400 is not a "street" gear box? Given it is not as much fun to drive as a six speed but with a six speed final gearing or even the auto final gearing it is still very streetable. I have had one in a Supra for 3 years now and no problems. Just curious...

true, the TH400 is semi streetable, my buddy has one on his drag supra, its just jerky and kinda horrible with the high stall for stop light driving... If i had a supra id stick with the prologic built for an auto or 6spd...

Having ridden in a drag Supra with one it was not very, street friendly so to speak. Maybe it was the stall they used but that thing jerked worse then a 4 puck clutch..

I would definately say it is the stall. You can get the Turbo400 with a lock up so in any gear it drops the RPMS approximately 4-500. The only thing that I would say is not streetable with the transmission is putting it into 1st or reverse. It honestly sounds like it is about to break something. Other than that, I drove my Supra around with the lockup 3 years ago with a six speed diff and lower stall converter with no problems. Also, a 4" throttle body makes it a little more difficult, IMHO.

MYAPLAYA, thank you for clarifying, I was a little confused

What is this jerking you are speaking of? I have installed 62 of the 400s now and do not see any jerking? They shift firm but no firmer than any built auto.

SP and IP Keep in mind that only auto I've driven in the last 4 years is my Titan and whatever setup they had on the Supra I rode in was retarded. EVERY redlight and launch at lower then redline engine speeds was like driving a 4 puck clutch in rush hour. It was loud, clunky, jerky, and all around just felt like crap. Thats NOT what I consider streetable. But then again not being a Mullet racer, or diehard Supra guy my experience is limited to that Supra..

Robert over at AEM gave me a call and they said they are continueing progress on the 350z. I think im going to wait. I also think its funy that all these EMS's ignore the fact of Cam Phasing. I remember asking UTEC makers about it and was ignored or im not sure if we got an acurate answer dont remember was so long ago haha

There are two versions of the Z motor. One is 287 CHP model in the original 350Z from 03-04 all models. In 05 Nissan introduced the "REv-Up" model of the motor with variable cam timing on both intake and exhaust cams and some changes in intake runner length, stronger rod bolts, etc. These motors make 300 CHP but less tq then the 287 version. In 05 this motor was only available in Track Model Zs and Anniversary version Zs with the 6MT only. In 06 ALL 350Z motors except for the 5AT cars have this motor. In 05 and 06 Infiniti switched ALL G35s to this new motor both 5AT and 6MT.

I wish some of you the tuners were more open about there engine secrets, lol

Im one of the fee trying to hit the 1000bhp mark and its going to cost me alot more money then it should have if someone had just told me some things lol.

I have the revup motor so it looks like the AEM could be just for me unless HKS updates the Fcon with the extra channel needed.

So perhaps you should not be in this debate, since you have no experience on the topic..

When did I debate this? I said IMHO a turbo 400 is not a streetable gearbox. Thats MY opinion based on what I have experienced. Now you are telling me what I should or shouldn't post based on my own first hand experience? If the stall configuration is THAT much of a factor that is something I was not aware of in the past. I don't build or race drag cars. My experience is what I have seen and felt first hand in a Supra running this exact transmission.
