Default Need some help with timing chain

Im posting here because all the FI guys know about this kind of stuff. I installed my timing chains and everything went on like a charm! Everything lined up perfect and all the marks matched up perfect. Once everything was installed I gave it a spin to make sure everything works ok. It spun smooth but when I got all the way around to match everything up it didnt match up. I gave it about ten more turns and still notta! Any ideas?

Did you discriminate between the ovals and circles, on the two banks? I always refer to the manual, becuase I can never remember which side uses ovals, and which side uses circles.

If you started this process with your crank key hole pointing towards the center of cylinder #1, and Cylinder #1 at TDC on the compression stroke (both valves closed), then you should be in good shape.

Were you following the diagram in the service manual? There are some pretty good helpers in there.

Let me know what you find out.

I followed Pages EM-57-58-59 in the manual to set the chains up. Did the ovals and circles thing and the cam noses on the right bank were pointing at each other like the manual shows on page EM-42. I was really shocked at how easy it went togeather. Everything turn great and nice and smooth! I just dont understand why it wont line up again. Shouldnt it line up again?

hey steve, ya gotta spin the motor like 15-20 times before all the marks will line up again, maybe more, i don't really remember. but if you got it set up correct with all the markings the way they should be before you turned the motor, you will be fine. or just keep turning till they line up again, lol.
no matter howe much you turn it over, every other 360 degrees the same amount of tooth count will line up on every gear.

You would have to do as many full revolutions as there are links in the chain ... so approx you would have to turn it about 200 full revolutions

As long as the marks and links line up, and you put some tension on the chain to make sure it wont slip on start up...you should be good to go.
