EGT Temps
#5
Mine is probed same place as cajunstyle. On real hard pulls it will go into the 1400's . Normal pulls I see between 12 and 1300. My engine builder told me once you get to 1600 for any kind of time is when you will start melting pistons and do some damage.

1000-1200F cruising & 1300-1400F at WOT. Was told by www.danzioperformance.com to avoid going beyond 1400.

Sorry if I find this humorous, but no one is adding a C or F... EGT gauges come in both, so it would be helpful in this conversation if anyone knew for sure what temperature you are talking about

My sensor is about 2" from the head. I regularly see up to 850C (1560F) at WOT. Up to 875C (1600F) is still okay. More than 950C (1750F) is when you start to have to worry... I've seen up to 1800F on my car when untuned and did not have any damage...
Stock block and internals. Please specify if you have lower compression pistons as the EGT will dramatically be affected in this case.

Sharif, as far as I know, there will be a huge difference if it's before or after the turbos. Mine's located before, about 2" from the head. That alone could account for 100-300F degree difference. also, you have a built engine with lower compression pistons, which makes a big difference.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Well, the reason it's the hottest in mine is because that's where one of the turbos are mounted. Since the turbo produces heat it's going to heat up the cylinder next to it--it's a good idea to keep an eye on the hottest one

Let be realistic, if those temps were C people would be having HUGE problems. If you think for a second then you would know they were F. I thought the question was funny though.

Sorry to hijack this thread a little,
I have the defi oil temp gauge and it's about 140F while cruising on hwy and about 190~200 when stuck in traffic. I'm in CA and weather is around 60~70...Is this normal or should I start looking for oil cooler...hot summer is comming and I want to get prepared. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

anyone know the general EGT difference between turbos and superchargers? What about with headers?
My installer put my EGT sensor at the collector of my crawford headers - he said that would give a more accurate overall reading between all the cylinders. Is that BS? I read that it shouldn't be any further than 6 inches from the block - where it is is probably like 12-15 inches from the block as far as the length of piping of the headers
