Spent about $30 at Lowe's hardware. Had to shave down some of the plastic where the pipe fits through, and just below the plastic piece that extends out from the radiator. The piping is PERFECT, basically an extension of the vortech inlet. Now I just need a giant K&N..

 

Looks similar to what I did! I used a 3.5" diameter 90 degree mild steel intercooler hose from www.turbohoses.com and bought a K&N filter RX-4140 from www.AJUSA.com .

 

how safe is using PVC?

 

PVC can probably handle heat better than silicone. Its also stronger. In a front end collision, it can shatter and ur engine will suck that into the engine however... thats all i can think off. Thats pretty sharp. You should polish it up and paint it black :-D

Wow your handy! I'm not sure about spending x amount of $$ on that tight *** engine then build that inlet, but DAMN NICE WORK!

 

I did the same thing. It seem that the car runs a little smoother with the colder air.....Well I guess the new "clean" filter helps a lot hehe. I didn't clean the filter for a year because it was such a pain. Now all I do it drop down the IC and its really easy to get to. Its was really easy to make. I used the old Injen CAI that I had and cut up the pipes to make it fit.

 

Me or sja177??? I did this because I couldnt get to the air filter. Or I couldnt get it out to clean it. Now that I moved it, I am still not sure if I can get to it! At least it has the opportunity to suck in cooler air. On a side note, be careful when washing intercooler or spraying water at it. I sprayed water into my intercooler and got the filter waterlogged and the car screwed up. It wouldnt go faster than about 45MPH and more than about 4500 RPM until it dried out. Very scary moment when I realized this!

Actually it looks like its mounted in the exact same spot the Turbonetics kit places the filter. I spray my intercooler down at the car wash and never had any issues with water affecting performance.

My filter is about 1/4" above the intercooler and when I sprayed water from the high pressure hose into my intercooler to clean any bugs and bug juice out, I soaked my filter and it killed performance. I am thinking maybe water was sucked up and hit the MAF sensor. Dont know, but thats what I am guessing. After about 60 miles of air flowing into the intake, it was fixed and I could go to redline again w/o spitting and sputtering. I am not sure why mine is different, but it is! Who knows.

I was wondering, did you guys notice much of a difference? Anymore boost, or hp? Theres GOT to be a disadvantge running a 3" filter on a 400whp supercharged motor.

I am not sure if the gains can be attributed to the CAI on the Vortech or not, but I ran .3 sec. faster in the 1/4 mile with the addition of the 3.5 final drive and this. I know most of the gain was from the final drive, but a buddy of mine gained ONLY .2 with his final drive. Maybe the cooler air made me gain about .1 sec. Who knows. In theory it will help because it is ingesting cooler air instead of the air from the engine bay!
